It had closed down a month ago and. we were notified so when we arrived were told the there was no rooms available. we were very disappointed and had to look for alternate accommdation. We now want a refund.
I preface this with note saying I would give the landlord 24 hours in which to contact me before writing my review. Neither Hotels.com or me have had any communication with them as I write.
After 45 minutes I checked out and sought alternative accommodation. Registered owners have much to do to retain guests. It was described as a gastro pub yet failed to serve food and is in a remote location; the uneven path between the pub and accommodation is not lit; the guest directory states “Choose BT WiFi - there was no BT WiFi; Check in took 15 minutes yet I was the only one being served; random plastic bottles were found in my bath.
We arrived and instantly regretted booking from just parking the car. The run down and untidy appearance outside gave us an unsettled feeling. We thought we’d brave it and walked in to the smell of cooking fat and dirt.
We were shown to our room which led us back outside and up to our room through further dirt and grime. All doors to rooms were propped open and all rooms were dated looked like something from the 70/80s.
As a mum and daughter we managed 10 minutes before we made the decision to leave as we felt unsafe. We ran out the room to find a woman having a cigarette in a doorway making us both jump. In the car park were a group of teens racing around on a motorbike without a helmet. We made a hasty exit never to return.
We were visiting family and had to ask them to return the key as we didn’t dare go back!
Where do I start?
Staff were friendly
But
Place is a mess on multiple levels. It's falling apart, compounded by junk left everywhere. Indoors and out there is stuff lying around.
Claims gourmet food but menu is basic and I wasn't brave enough to try it.
Claims to be real ale pub but there isn't any unless you count Abbott in a bottle. I tried the cider but spoilt by strange smell from glass - each time.
Shower was unusable.
They need to close for a month, order a few skips, pile of cleaning materials and a lot of paint!
I stayed here for work in the area. Accomodation is clean and staff were friendly.
Has a good selection of food and drink. I had the best fish and chips here ive had in quite a while but the menu is large enough t cover pub grub or a good steak or curry.
I liked it here and would stat again no issue.
Needs a lot more work before its okay for people to stay .
One member of staff only on a Friday night working very hard to try and provide adequate service for diners and guests .
Outside areas are untidy and unloved
Room was grubby mattress appalling, gave no support and found to be dirty .
Nice people trying hard but the place just isnt ready for guests needs lots of cleaning and tidying and tlc
I stayed here with my 2 daughters and partner for 2 nights so that we could travel to longleat for a little family trip.
The room was decent size and my children really enjoyed the novelty of sharing a bunk bed.
The carpet looked like it hadn't been hoovered before we arrived though as there was crumbs of food on the floor.
The window in our room didn’t shut at all! And had cling film or some sort of plastic film over the glass which I assume was to keep the heat in. Although it was July, it was pouring with rain on our visit so had a draft and the wind made the blind bash against the radiator all night.
Also the main road outside our window was ridiculous, cars speeding up and down it all hours of the night so loudly. We kept getting woken up which was frustrating.
There was no hand soap in the bathroom either which isn’t great for cleanliness, especially when you have young children who pick up germs from everywhere.
The shower head kept falling off so you have to keep holding the head and rinse yourself off which was just annoying.
The staff were friendly, but when I went down on the Tuesday to ask if they were serving lunch, they said they said they don’t serve lunch specifically on a Tuesday which I thought was odd??
The place definitely needs a revamp (as stated in other people’s reviews) and also our ceiling light was hanging off and checked plug in the wall by the kettle looked like it was about to come out the wall!
Wouldn’t stay again.
It was a great stop for us in our walk in the area . Staff very kind and friendly , food tasty (we had the homemade curry ) . Drinks were also good we had a draught beer and cider. It’s lovely to find people taking on a business and improving it . We didn’t use it but there is a large car park and garden at the rear
Quaint small hotel above a pub was nice. The room had been remodeled but certain items were still needing upgrading; old leaky windows, bathroom fixtures, and entry door hardware. I cannot remember the last time I used a skeleton key for a hotel room. The bathroom lacked an exhaust fan, the carpeting in the bath smelled musty and there was mold growing on the wall at the ceiling.
There were limited option of where to stay for my trip, this place was convenient, I was surprised at the £50 per night price. I soon realized why it was this price! firstly, the owner is a lovely gentleman, polite and makes some fantastic curries! however the general state of the pub / accommodation is quite poor and in dire need of refurbishment, the pub itself had no atmosphere whatsoever and an unpleasant smell was evident.
If its just a bed you need for a stay-over, this place is fine and of course great value too, but don't expect any 'hotel' style amenities.
Warm welcome from Dilip, took me to where the room was early, as I was on business and did not know what time I would be back that night, showed me everything. Very nice guy. Very good ,freshly cooked breakfast. Superb freshly cooked Chicken Korahi curry with home made naan etc. Totally delicious. Room was fresh, hughe king size bed, TV. Shower and bath. Quiet, comfortable and I enjoyed the hospitality of the bar too. Met Dilips business partner, another fine guy.
There is renovation to the property going on and it will soon look a lotbetter from outside, once the stripped out debris goes from the carpark, but thatis cosmetic. Would stay again. Highlight being HOT, not lukewarm water, as in many establishments. Excellent value for the money. Will be back!
