About this property

The Escape on 10 secluded acres, sleeps 10

Incredible setting with views from a ten-acre estate only minutes to downtown historic Saluda, North Carolina, fifteen minutes to Hendersonville, twenty minutes to the Tryon International Equestrian Center and thirty minutes by interstate to Asheville or Greenville. Large deck that overlooks the valley and the mountains.
There’s also a lower outside sitting area with a firepit and sitting area to enjoy, and we think you’ll find the setting very nice.
Main level consists of kitchen with Stainless Steel Appliances, dining room, great room with a rock gas fireplace, 55" smart HDTV, Master Bedroom with a queen bed, shower and tub. There is a second bedroom on the main floor with a queen bed and a full bathroom adjacent to that bedroom. There is also a laundry room with a Washer and Dryer.
Lower level has 3 smaller bedrooms with one queen bed. one double bed, and one with twin beds, full bath, 45" HDTV, a separate area to play cards or games or eat. This lower level also includes a full Kitchen with Refrigerator/Freezer, Oven, Microwave, and Sink.
There’s a small creek at the bottom of the Farm that we think the kids will thoroughly enjoy.
We do allow some pets with a fee of $125 per pet. Prior approval needed.
You'll find there's plenty of room in and around The Escape if you and the others just want some quiet time to read a book, meditate or just play some outdoor games in the yard.
We want to let you know this is an older home that we’ve made quite a few upgrades to. It’s a work in progress but we think you’ll find it well kept. All the Bedrooms and Bathrooms have new linens and are freshened up as needed.
A little history on this property,
The Escape at Betty and Gil’s Farm was originally owned by Betty and Gilbert Graham. It’s now owned by their children. Betty and Gil passed away in 2021, at the ripe old age of 92.
Gil and Betty were born and raised in Miami, and their ancestors have a rich history in Miami and the Florida Keys, and at one time were pineapple farmers on Elliott Key.
For many years, Betty, Gil, and their 4 kids camped in the North Carolina Mountains for summer vacations, and most often, they had 8 to 10 families from Northwest Baptist Church in North Miami come along as well. It was quite the caravan, and many wonderful memories for all!
In 1973, Betty, Gil and their close friends, Ollie and Shirley Singleton purchased this 20-acre Farm from Claude and Vivian Thompson, who built the original house in 1935. Claude was a farmer and took his produce by horse and wagon to the nearby cities to sell. Claude never drove a car!
In 1979 Gil and Betty moved from Miami to live fulltime in Saluda.
They lived in the original farmhouse while Gil built this home, mainly by himself!
For many years, Gil and Betty had their 11 grandchildren up for 2 to 3 weeks every summer. The close bond the grandkids formed during these summer vacations continues to this day. And Betty and Gil’s kids very much appreciated them taking them out of our hands!
There’s too much history to share in this description but’s it’s our hope you’ll experience and feel the presence of Friendship and Love throughout the Farm.

Very rural
Sleeps as many people as it indicates, it is on lots of hike-able land, has ample parking. We were able to get an early check-in which was great and very accommodating - the owner communicates very well!

Some issues
Property was off the beaten path. The seclusion was quite nice. No cellular signal made things a little difficult. The only real complaint i have is there was animal hair everywhere. It was in the fridge, freezer and on all the beds. We had to wash all the linen befor we could comfortably sleep on them. Also the garbage was full before we were able to toss our trash forcing us not comply with their trash policy. Overall it was a good experience.
