Hello! Welcome to Shell Cottage in beautiful Salvo on Hatteras Island. Thank you for your interest. We are located on a quiet street and just 390 feet from the beach access and a few minutes’ drive to a beach day-use park on the sound side. Traditional beach box bungalow. Come and enjoy a cozy and comfortable getaway vacation! This classic beach bungalow is clean, fresh, and comfortable. Great getaway for a couple or small family, kite boarder, and surfers. Have a great, relaxing time at our beautiful beach, never crowded with its golden sands. Enjoy a great day of surf fishing or sunbathing and come out at night with your flashlights and go ghost crab hunting. The roads are quiet and safe to walk or ride your bike to the day-use park. Get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Relax on the deck at night and watch the sky full of stars, so close you feel like you could touch them, or in the screened porch while enjoying your barbeque from the charcoal grill provided. Swim, fish, surf or kiteboard, windsurf, kayak or paddleboard on sound side. Salvo day-use park is perfect for a family with little ones where the water is shallow and warm. Rinse off in the outside shower! General store within walking distance. Lots of places to rent bikes, boards, kayaks, fishing gear, all close by. Whether you are looking for adventure or just wanting to chill on the beach, cast your worries aside and come enjoy a simple, fun, and relaxing vacation.

(Colony Dr. is a very quiet beach road, no traffic except for residents who live or vacation in Hatteras Colony ). The frequent visits from the ice cream and Kona Ice trucks are a plus!

Almost Wonderful

3* experience which could easily have been a 5* experience. Little things like sheets not being on the beds, no coffee or hand soap or washcloths provided, the A/C spewing black specks over the dining table all week, the TV remote not working and a screen door which requires you to either lock everyone in or out added up to diminish our vacation a fair amount. The cabin and its surroundings were fine. Short walk to the beach on the Atlantic side, although with the high wind we found we much preferred the Sound side of the island. We bought and left hand soap, washcloths, AAA batteries, coffee, and canisters for the coffee so hopefully future guests will have a better experience. It also got cold at night and there were no extra blankets - a couple not-really blankets were left in the closet. That would have been nice.

Great Location/Charming Beach Cottage

Overall we had a very pleasant experience. Super quick walk to the beach, great outdoor shower and porch to sip our morning coffee on. Beds were very comfortable and kitchen had all the amenities needed for our stay. Loved the charcoal grill as well. AC unit worked very well and kept the home very comfortable during our week. Nice paths in the town to ride bikes or go for runs. Owner left a nice welcome bag with some toiletries as well as a nice information book for our stay. Hope to come back again in the future!

THE BEST!

Perfect place for a relaxing stay at the beach. Private, clean, close to the beach, and the perfect size for us as a couple. The location is wonderful, far from the crowds but close enough to stores, restaurants, and obx attractions. We loved it!

Always a nice time

I've been coming to Tracy's for 7 years now. Excellent getaway. The Waves Market and Boardwok South are within walking distance, and it's a great oppo to get away from the DC area. Very pet friendly, and a nice neighborhood.

Great Little Cottage

This was our second time staying at the shell cottage and we just love it! Luckily for us the tropical storm moved quickly and left us with great weather. Great home away from home

Little Slice of Heaven

We love this cottage because it’s not huge like a lot of homes in OBX. We’re a family of four with 2 dogs so this cottage is perfect for us. It’s also so close to the beach you can come and go as you please. Nestled on a quiet street, it’s perfect for those who just want to get away and relax. The host is very responsive as well. Our 2nd year staying here.

Nice set up, enjoyed the screened in front porch, fan would have been nice but it was a very hot week. You may want to check the drainage of the bathroom sink. Other than that its a very nice place, appreciate tou letting us stay there...

Perfect Stay for Family Vaca

My husband and I took the kids and our pup dog Bucky on their very first OBX vacation and this little beach cottage was perfect. It was a short walk to the beach and not too far of a drive to the sound side either. About and hour drive from the ferry to Ocracoke or up to Corolla. The whole family had a blast and did not want to leave. We were a little sad leaving the cottage behind to make our long trip back home to Michigan. We are looking forward to coming back for another fun stay in the future.

Awesome Spot

The property was perfect! Adorable and cozy and close to the beach! It was perfect place for a getaway! They had everything we needed! Including adorable dog bowls (which was awesome because I forgot our pup’s)! Can’t wait to come back again!

Hidden gem on the Carolina coast

This charming bungalow in Salvo was a double winner -- first, for the thoughtful, creative, and comfortable accommodations, and second, for the beautiful and sparsely populated beach! The home itself is well-appointed, with a nicely outfitted kitchen, great entertainment options, comfortable beds, and very nice outdoor seating. And the wall of Pez is not to be missed! A perfect getaway for my husband, me, and our two pups. Just a short walk to multiple public access points to the beach, which again, is beautiful. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for quiet and stress-free relaxation at the shore!

This house is adorable.

Renting through VRBO was a breeze. The house was spotless and decorated so adorably. My husband and I came to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary.We did have to leave early due to weather conditions of Hurricane Ian, but I know we would’ve had a ball.
