Samarkand is a fascinating, history-rich destination and staying in the historic part of the city was a rewarding experience. I recently spent four nights at the L’Armanac Hotel and have only the highest words of praise.
Before my arrival, I had already contacted the manager, Ms. Sharofat Azizova, who responded to my emails with professionalism and courtesy. It was a pleasure to receive such prompt and reassuring assistance in Uzbekistan. She kindly arranged all my rail tickets in advance, so I had five train tickets waiting for me in Samarkand, the first stop in my Uzbeki adventure. She also arranged airport pick-up for my arrival.
The hotel itself is an elegant and beautifully decorated oasis, with chandeliers and fresh flowers. Rooms are spacious and well appointed with everything one might need, and the colorful embroidered suzanis on the beds provide an authentic, ethnic touch. The whole place is bright and polished, and kept spanking clean. Staff is pleasant and smiling. Breakfast is set up outside in the terrace, overlooking the garden. In colder weather, the buffet is moved indoors to a dining hall.
Ms. Azizova’s care was the epitome of graciousness. Upon request she provided a personal driver to take me around Samarkand, wherever I wished to visit. She patiently answered my questions and made everything easy for me in a foreign country. She even made time to sit and chat with me explaining local custom and culture.
Thank you Ms. Azizova and your remarkable staff!
