The Space:
Nestled in the 500-year-old historic Spanish colonial city of Old San Juan, Villa Laurel is the ideal basecamp to explore Old San Juan's history, restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. You will love the serenity of this 2 bedroom apartment that has spectacular double doors that open to a private interior patio. The location is ideal for those looking to be close to the action in Old San Juan, located less than a block from the busy nightlife and restaurants of Calle San Sebastian and a short walk from El Morro Spanish fort. It is also just a few steps from the Old San Juan Cathedral. The apartment sleeps 4 adults, has one queen bed in the master bedroom, and a queen bed in the second bedroom, an updated and fully stocked kitchen with 2-person counter space, a living room with flat-screen TV and WIFI, one full bathroom.

LIVING AREAS

Enter Villa Laurel to an open layout that includes a comfortable living room with a sofa and flat-screen TV, a renovated and fully stocked kitchen with 2-person counter space, and spectacular doors that you can completely open to the private interior patio or leave closed with windows to let in sunlight. The villa has air conditioning and WIFI. The layout makes very efficient use of space and the cathedral ceilings make the area feel much larger. There is one full bathroom; bath and beach towels are included.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS

The master bedroom is appointed with a queen bed that is outfitted with fresh linens for each stay. The second bedroom has also a queen-size bed. This apartment has a maximum occupancy of 4 guests. There is a ceiling fan and air conditioning in both bedrooms.

GETTING AROUND

This property does not include parking. If staying within the general San Juan/Metro area, we recommend moving around via Uber. If you decide to rent a car, there are various paid parking garages around Old San Juan - pricing varies as some charge by the hour and others have a flat rate.

LOCATION

Staying in Old San Juan is a truly unique experience filled with charm and character. From Villa Laurel, you can comfortably walk anywhere within Old San Juan. We recommend taking a cab from the airport and using Uber or taxi while you stay at Old San Juan. Renting a car is not necessary unless you are planning on road tripping. This is a truly walkable location with everything you need a short walk away. The apartment does not include parking. Nonetheless, there are convenient parking lots close to the apartment.
There are many things to do in the surrounding areas, here are some of our favorites, all within walking distance:

Explore the El Morro Fort. There are daily tours of the fort and the large green areas have spectacular ocean views. Take a tour, have a picnic, and fly a kite. This is a must-do.
Explore the iconic Calle San Sebastian nightlife. There is a large assortment of bars on this strip which is a favorite among locals on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Breakfast at “La Bombonera”. This is a Puerto Rican landmark well known for its locally inspired breakfast and pastries.
Savor Stuffed Avocado. Healthy and "trendy" spot where you can create your own avocado bowl.
Take a stroll around “Paseo La Princesa”, a waterfront walkway which you can start off at El Morro and finish the walk with a rum tasting at Princesa Gastrobar at the end of the trail.

Great Location for doing Old San Juan

The location was great and the unit was comfortable with all of the necessities. My only complaint would be that the place had an overwhelming stale/moldy smell, likely because the A/C is turned off when people aren't there and there is no fan or window open to get air circulation.

Great Location - Horrible Experience

The apartment is centrally located and easy to find. That is the only positive quality we experienced there. When we arrived, we stopped to unload our bags and within LITERALLY 30 seconds received an expensive ticket because we were not allowed to stop anywhere or pull off the main road to unload our bags. THERE IS NO PARKING ANYWHERE NEARBY and the weekends are worse. Once we got into the apartment there was a dead roach on the floor and you could hear the street traffic from inside the apartment. The keyed gateway is also a bit unsafe at night because it takes a significant amount of time to open the key holder and unlock the gate and then relock it to get into the main hallway of the building. The patio/courtyard is completely barren and useless. It's an eyesore to look at and the only source of sunlight to the place. You also cant leave the window shades open to that patio because the people in the adjacent apartment can see directly into the bedroom. On our second to last day, we arrived to find that the ENTIRE apartment had flooded. Smelly water from the shower drain poured into the hall and both bedrooms and living room. It was difficult to reach the guy who was local and supposedly available for emergencies and the person in Texas was also difficult to reach in an emergency. We were not offered alternate accommodations but told we had to leave because no one could come fix the issue and clean up. Hotels were outrageously pricey last minute and 45 mins away.

Pretty City Apartment with Courtyard

Lovely property - two nicely-sized bedrooms, small living area and kitchen. Nicely appointed and superb location in Old San Juan. Close proximity to shops, restaurants, attractions, grocery, markets and more. The thing that makes it amazing -- location -- also means the streets are filled with revelers, so expect some city hubbub and party noise even late at night. AC, Wifi, all working although electricity cut out city-wide for an hour on one of the days. Attentive managers.

Nice Condo

We really enjoyed Villa Laurel . If you are looking for a place central to the night life of Old San Juan this is a great spot. A two minute walk to a fantastic spot on the square for Cafe Con Leche , pastries and mallorca. We loved the condo and it met our needs. Nice bathroom, two nice sized bedrooms and a small kitchen area great for breakfast but easily could cook dinner there. Two observations that you should know. There is NO view at all and there is NO living area. There is a sofa against the wall but it still is like you are in the kitchen. If you spend your time exploring and going out this is a great location. If you like to hang out at your condo when you are on vacation, this may not be ideal for that. To wrap up we totally enjoyed our stay and interactions with West Indies. Great folks to deal with!

Great location, very comfortable

It took us 2 years to actually get to Puerto Rico because if COVID. Start to finish, a phenomenal experience; extremely willing to move the dates of stay, not only for COVID but also to coordinate with an unexpected work trip. Everything in Old San Juan was within walking distance, and if my husband and I had actually woken up in time, we would have been able to take the ferry across the Bay to the Bacardi distillery.

PR for my Bday

A group of five of us stayed here; it was very conveniently placed in the middle of everything. Also as far as safety u have two locks on the door. There’s one lockbox with a code to get into the complex and another to get into your unit. The only thing we didn’t take full advantage of: were the many boutiques, eateries and tourist attractions that were in walking distance of the house. We know for next time!

Great Location, Great Value

This was my first time using VRBO and this stay did not disappoint. My friends and I were easily able to check in. We soon found out that we were a block away from the most popular bar in Puerto Rico - La Factoria. We were steps away from all historical monuments in Old San Juan and were truly able to enjoy all of the food and culture and experiences easily from the apartment. The space was very comfortable for four people, and the half bath came in handy! The bunk beds are full size beds which made the stay much more comfortable for the four of us too! The space was clean and comfortable and the AC worked well. We enjoyed the terrace area outside and also utilized the large mirror in the foyer. Ceilings were tall, beamwork was gorgeous, windows were stunning, the courtyard was beautiful… we felt like we were in a dream! Thank you for the comfortable stay

Unusual circumstances

The location made walking Old San Juan very enjoyable. I appreciated the efficient use of space in this apartment. There was a missing drawer handle in the kitchen, there were black stains on the ceiling that were suspicious, and a little sand on the floor when we arrived, but my sister still loved the style and natural beauty of the space. The noise was very loud, but talking with the neighbors helped. Take thier advice about not getting a rental car because we paid way too much in parking. The apartment flooded the third day we were there because of plumbing issues. My family and I swept and mopped to prevent further damage, but our suitcases got wet and all of my sister's clothes that were in her suitcase got soiled with bad smelling water from the flood. Jocelyn was very communicative and responsive to texts and emails both before and during the trip which was extremely helpful. She said they issued a refund for the balance of our trip, but it hasn't come through yet (10 days later) and it seemed like they charged us for an extra day we weren't there, plus the full cleaning fee, plus the full tax amount for the time we were not even staying so this did not seem fair to me. Over all I think we would have enjoyed our stay if the flooding and partying next door hadn't happened. My husband did not enjoy the stay at all because of the lack of water pressure, dirty floor and noise. My sister loved the apartment because of it's style and location. I liked the apartment. It depends on what you are looking for.

Nice property

The property was nice and perfectly located to all the shops, restaurants and sceneries that I wanted to visit. CONS: parking took 30 min to find, especially on the weekends. The apartment complex was not sound proof. You can hear every single conversation from the neighbors. At one point, someone was screaming in the middle of the night, waking me up from my sleep. Wish we had known how noisy it could be. Also WiFi was impossibly slow. We were students that needed to work remotely and we could barely do anything as the internet didn’t have enough bandwidth so we had to work from a cafe. Regardless, the apartment met our needs. We would def stay again!
