Dutjiya Mang means 'rest here' in Dja Dja Wurrung.
Inside the cedar wood cottage, timber-lined walls and vaulted ceilings add a sense of space to the cosy lounge and queen-sized bedroom. A well stocked kitchenette with ethically sourced goodies, has everything you need for a night in, or lazy breakfast in bed. Step out and enjoy a barbecue on one of two secluded decks, or sit around the fire pit in the garden.
You will have exclusive, undisturbed use of Dutjiya Mang. However, the cottage also shares 1.8 acres with another property. It is approximately 50 metres away and separated by tall eucalypts that add to the sense of seclusion. You are welcome to explore the shared gardens.
Whilst the cottage sleeps 4 (1 queen bed, 1 double sofa bed, plus cot or single floor mattress on request), it is most comfortable for 2 adults ( or 2 adults and small children), as indoor seating space is limited. We can also set up additional tents and bedding can be set up in the garden if you have a larger group.

Dutjiya Mang is secluded and private, but is situated just off the Newstead-Creswick Road for convenient access to the region. There is some traffic noise and neighbours - but there's also lots of bird song, and at night you'll be listening out for the resident Barking Owls!
Please note that we have chickens and quails in an enclosed pen, who you are welcome to visit. But if you have dogs who will be very interested in the birds or capable of breaking into the pen, please keep them supervised at all times to avoid scaring or harming the birds.
Bees are also kept on the property so please act accordingly when you or pets are near the hive, especially if you are at risk of anaphylaxis.
Wildlife that has been seen from the property includes:
- Echidna (who we believe lives under the cottage) - Kangaroos
- Barking owls (heard frequently, seen rarely - one of only 50 known breeding pairs in Victoria)
- Welcome swallows
- Musk lorikeets
- Peaceful doves
- Willy wagtails
- Superb fairy wrens
- Grey shrike-thrushes
- White-plumed honey eaters
- Bell miner
- Crimson rosellas
- Red-rumped parrots
- Sulphur-crested cockatoos
- Rainbow lorikeets
- Kookaburras
- Magpies
- Galahs
- Long-billed corellas
- Brown thornbills
- And many more we don't yet know the name of... We'd love to hear what you see!
