Holidays in Sarika

When chucking a sickie becomes your new norm, it's time to take a break from the corporate treadmill and say hello to Sarika!

It's located 100 kilometres to the northeast of the country's capital, Bangkok.

Are you craving a bit of time in the natural world? Jump in the car and journey to Nam Phut Natural Spring, 25 kilometres from Sarika. You can also enjoy some fresh air at Wang Born Waterfall, 19 kilometres away.

Seeking some additional nearby localities? Nakhon Nayok is about 12 kilometres to the south, so hop in the car and start exploring! Alternatively, Pak Phli, 18 kilometres southeast of Sarika, is also worth the journey.

Spend a while wandering around Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Ratchaburana and Ayutthaya Historical Park. They are all pretty close to the centre of Ayutthaya, 75 kilometres away. More time to kill? Wat Phra Mahathat and the Wat Chai Wattanaram ought to also be on your travel plan.

There is no better way to understand a place than to literally take a bite out of it! You're invited to discover Nakhon Nayok by tasting some of its most tantalizing food and drink.

Jasmine rice and durian fruit are just a couple of typical ingredients in many of the dishes here. If you don't have a liking for them already, you will by the end of your stay!

When the locals talk to you about their food, you might hear khao phat nam phrik long ruea (rice, chili and duck’s eggs) or pla som (sour fish) mentioned once or twice. These specialties form part of the area's identity and should be on any foodie's list.

Calories don't count when you're travelling, right? So it's a terrific excuse to treat your sweet tooth to some kanom dok sanow (rice and flower sweet), a well-liked dessert.

Your visit to Sarika is bound to be much more satisfying if you take the time to learn a few of the local phrases. You may be glad you learnt 'Yin dee têe dâi róo jàk', which translates to 'pleased to meet you'. There's also 'Kŏr hâi dern taang doi sà-wàt-dì-pâap' ('have a nice trip').

Every year on the 5th of December, Birthday of King Phumiphon occupies an important place in the hearts of the locals. It offers a great chance to learn about the country's history and have a little fun while you're at it!

Before you pack up your belongings and wave "Læ̂w phb kạn h̄ım̀", why not spend the last of your holiday allowance and buy yourself some lasting reminders of Sarika?

If you're flying back home, it's probably a wise idea to map your route to the terminal in advance. From the middle of Sarika, you'll need to travel around 85 kilometres southwest to Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), the closest airport.
