Luxurious 1883 Classic on a Prime Jones Street Block by Lucky Savannah

This grand 5-bedroom home, located on the most famous residential street of Savannah, was built in 1883 for the former Chairman of the Chatham County Commission, Joseph J. Dale. A beautiful Italianate exterior with foot-thick walls encloses 4200 square feet of living space on 3 stories.The home boasts 12-foot ceilings, original fireplaces, and heart pine floors.
 
The main entrance is on the parlor level, with bedrooms on both the top floor above and garden level below. A porch adorned with wooden flourishes covers the front door. Next to the entrance, a plaque designates the historic landmark status of the property.  Inside, the parlor has floor-to-ceiling bay windows from which to spot the occasional horse-drawn carriage on tour.  An archway frames the formal dining room and table with seating for 10, lighted by the soft twinkling of a magnificent crystal chandelier. At the back of the house is a gourmet kitchen outfitted with Kitchen Craft cupboards, two farmers porcelain sinks, sub-zero refrigerator, and a Thermador commercial stove. A breakfast area seats six and a balcony overlooks the courtyard.
 
Head up the banister stairway to find 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms on the top floor.  The front room contains a king bed and comfortable chairs where you can read while looking out on the live oaks of Jones. A middle bedroom includes a queen bed, armoire, and skylight. A 3rd bedroom in back, decorated with golden wall coverings and a queen bed, overlooks the garden and enjoys soft morning light.
 
Downstairs from the parlor floor is a garden-level ground floor with two spacious bedrooms, a TV den, a full bathroom, and a kitchenette. The front bedroom contains a king bed and dark wood furnishings. The garden-facing back bedroom contains a queen bed and views of the lion-head fountain. Garden level French doors open onto the flower- and vine-laden courtyard area behind the house featuring two Lion Head fountains. Outdoor chairs and tables enable al fresco dining.

Overall recommend this home but needs some cosmetic improvements. Great and safe location and a really fantastic value for the house. Lucky Savannah is excellent at communicating and assistance. Upstairs shower could use a redo. In fact, this could be a stunning rental with the right furniture and bedding updates (some were a tad shabby). But I’m the picky one and the other ladies in the group loved the house. Thanks for sharing your interesting home.

Fantastic place!

The J.J. Dale house is a gem! We were five couples, and the house worked out really well for us. 3 bedrooms and 2 baths were on the top floor. A half bath is on the second floor (with the living room, kitchen, etc), and 2 bedrooms and 1 bath are on the ground floor. (No bathrooms are ensuite). Also on the ground floor was another living area and a mini kitchen, but we didn't use these. We all hung out on the second floor. There's a nice garden/backyard area, and there are balconies with seating on both the second and third floors. And the location was great! We walked everywhere - it was less than a mile to the riverfront. We would definitely stay here again!!

We were in awe when we pulled up to the house. This house is located on the most beautiful, picturesque street. We were even more impressed when we entered the front door. This house is grand and has a perfect mix of historic charm and modern comfort. It was in the 80’s during our stay and it felt so refreshing to enter the house with AC. The kitchen was fully stocked with cooking tools and utensils. The management company was able to accommodate my request for a few feather free pillows which was much appreciated! We absolutely loved this house and would stay again!

Reunion of long-time friends in perfect house.

A group of 6 college friends from 45 years ago enjoyed 4 days/3 nights in this magnificent Savannah home. The 5 bedrooms were huge, the bathrooms had great showers and were stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There were 2 kitchens which had every gadget you would ever need as well as plenty of plates, glasses, cups, etc. The furnished balconies and terrace were wonderful and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor space. And the location was perfect. The most beautiful residential street in Savannah in walking distance to everything!! This was truly the best rental I’ve ever stayed at.

Stunning Historic Townhome within walking distance of historic Savannah - Exquisite and comfortable

The JJ Dale House and its furnishings were integral to our wonderful Savannah experience. The furnishings are not only stunning, but delivered comfort in a quiet, harmonious setting with beautiful landscaping. We rented the entire home and guests were able to find their own place, variously on the balcony overlooking the courtyard, the courtyard, or the comfortable living room downstairs. The upstairs shower had a rain shower and hand attachment. We made good use of the chef's kitchen with multiple sinks, all the necessary gadgets (including a pancake griddle), well stocked with beautiful plates, serving dishes, wine glasses, and a cozy sitting area. We had no difficulty finding parking on the street!

Girls Trip

The property is beautiful! The pictures do the home NO justice. Walking distance to dining and shopping! The only reason I cannot give 5 starts is due to the lack of hot water in 2 out of the 3 showers, the shower heads needing to be delimed to get the full effect and the bulbs leading to the garden level needing to be replaced. Other than that it was excellent for 6 women! I would highly recommend!

Great Savannah Base!

We had a lovely time staying at the JJ Dale House in Savannah! The house fit all our needs and was comfortable for our group of 10 women. Walking distance to almost everything. The house was so nice to come back to after exploring. Wish we had another day to enjoy it! Would return with a large group.
