My son and I recently toured the beautiful campus of Union College and had a memorable experience at The Stockade Inn. The staff was incredibly friendly and informative, adding to the charm of the visit. What makes The Stockade special is its unique character. If you’re looking for a typical commercial hotel experience, this isn’t it. Instead, you’ll find a place that truly represents the culture and history of Schenectady. The only downside during our stay was that renovations were underway, so things weren’t as presentable as they could be. However, it looks like it will be wonderful once the work is complete.

The staff was very nice; however, the property was not. The room was dusty - we could see dust on the top of the curtains in the bathroom and on the tv stand, there was no AC, which was fine, but they didn't provide a fan. They provided no water to drink. There was no handsoap in the bathroom. The curtain in the bathroom was very sheer.

We’ve been before, building under lovely renovations. Owner gave us a brief tour, upgraded our room to a beautiful king bed, corner room with lovely views of the neighborhood. Easy walk to dinner and our venue.

Historic property
This is an opportunity to stay at a property that is intrinsic to the surrounding community, The Stockade. The neighborhood is the first historic district established in New York State and this property sits at the center one of the highest concentrations of 200+ year old homes in the U.S. It served as a community bank in the 1800s and a social club in the 1900s. Just as Schenectady has never given up on itself, the current owners of the Stockade Inn are carefully breathing new life into this amazing space. A true traveler will want to be part of this process as it unfolds.
