Holidays in Segur-le-Chateau

If 'humdrum' is how you'd describe your life at the mo, then you definitely need a new adventure! Why not book a flight to Segur-le-Chateau and immerse yourself in the stunning rural landscapes and rivers of Limousin?

It lies 390 kilometres south of the country's capital, Paris.

There are some pleasant natural attractions surrounding Segur-le-Chateau. Why not head 45 kilometres to Cave of Lascaux? Alternatively, you can enjoy the natural beauty of Gouffre de la Fage, 40 kilometres away.

Hoping to experience some gripping rugby union action? Then come and see the Club Athlétique Brive Corrèze Limousin fight it out with the opposition on their home turf of Stade Amedee Domenech, 35 kilometres away in Brive-la-Gaillarde.

Venture outwards and see what's going on in Beyssenac, 3 kilometres to the south. Many travellers come here for Chateau d'Arnac-Pompadour and the Pompadour Hippodrome. Alternatively, Genis is 15 kilometres to the southwest of Segur-le-Chateau. Visit this locality for convenient access to Chateau de Hautefort and Piscine Municipale.

Whether it's for shopping or to explore the sights, travellers often take a day trip to Ussac, 30 kilometres to the southeast. Church of St-Martin, the Musee Labenche and Centre National d'Etudes Edmond Michelet are all close at hand. That being said, you wouldn't want to pass up Les Jardins de Colette and Collégiale St-Martin either.

If your youngest travellers have had their fill of sightseeing, why not change the pace and take them cycling or shore fishing?

You're bound to see plenty of treasures crammed into the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries and craft workshops.

Take a nice stroll and make the most of the fresh air at the surrounding area's gardens.

If you're a history nerd, you'll get a kick out of the local castles and traditional villages. Do some research beforehand or introduce yourself to the nearest tour guide.

Learn about the area's religion and maybe get in touch with your spirituality by calling in at one or two of Segur-le-Chateau's churches, cathedrals and monasteries.

To truly experience a destination is to sample the local food and drink, so get set to chomp, chew, slurp and sip your way through Limousin. The only thing you need to take with you is your appetite!

Want some insight into the regional cuisine? We recommend tasting lamb and mushrooms, two popular ingredients which go into dishes here.

Of course, you can't visit Segur-le-Chateau without introducing your taste buds to boudin noir aux châtaignes (black pudding with chestnuts) or fondu creusois (camembert fondue with potatoes). Popular with residents and considered regional specialties, they are an essential experience for any food-loving traveller.

Impress your hosts by learning an expression or two in the local tongue. 'Ça va bien, merci. Et toi/vous?' means 'fine thanks, and you?'. 'Merci', which means 'thank you', is another one you may need.

Want to join in on all the Bastille Day celebrations? Put the 14th of July on your calendar and get ready to let your hair down with the locals!

Before you pack up your belongings and wave "À plus tard", why not spend the remainder of your holiday allowance and buy yourself some souvenirs of Segur-le-Chateau?

With a bit of planning, getting to Merignac Airport (BOD), the nearest airport, shouldn't be too difficult. It's about 170 kilometres southwest of downtown Segur-le-Chateau.
