Newly renovated (2023) Lakeside Luxury Cottage w.Northern Light camera

This is a brand-new (2023) cottage less than an hour drive from exciting Reykjavik. The cottage is located high up in a hill, It has a magnificent view of the lake and surrounding mountains. 3 Separate bedrooms, Comfortable hot tub available for use all year around, Free high speed WiFi with unlimited data. 24 hour check in. The cottage is perfectly located to explore everything South Iceland has to offer. If you want to experience Iceland's clean and pure nature at it's best then this is the cottage for you with with it's magical views that are hard to beat.

Detailed description :
The cottage is located by the lake Úlfljótsvatn which is next to Thingvellir national park. Also close to other famous landmarks such as Gullfoss and Geysir and more. The cottage is 200 m2 and three stories high.
On the main floor there is a fully-equipped kitchen with a fridge/freezer, microwave, toast, oven/stove, with a dining area next to the kitchen seating up to 12. On the same floor is the main living room with amazing views over the lake. Here you can cuddle up in the winter and watch the Northern Lights dance in the sky or in the summer you can enjoy our long summer nights with a constant sunset during the night.

Up in the sleeping loft there is one room with a queen size bed and a sofabed that can be made up as two single beds - make sure to let us know if that is needed.

On the lower floor you will find 3 bedrooms, a tv room, a laundry room and straight access to our hot and cold tub. Our lounge furniture is kept inside over the winter but can be enjoyed in the Spring, Summmer and Fall. There is a large Weber bbq that can be used all year long.

The house is built very high up on a hill with a magnificent view of the lake and surrounding mountains, so I recommend 4x4 car specially during winter but if not there is also possibility to park in the driveway and walk up to the house, instead you get these stunning panoramic mountain views it is also amazing to see the northern lights / aurora from there. The view is truly amazing!!

We co operate with a company named Live Aurora network they set up on the house a specialized northern lights camera and they also produced app to work with the camera to use in the smart phone so now our guests don't have to wait outside for the northern lights to show up. Instead you can do anything else to enjoy your vacation at its best and get the app in your phone and the mobile beeps or rings when the northern lights show up. Simple basic and very accurate so you will for sure not miss them when they show up. It is of course possible to get the app in your phone now or anytime before your stay if you would like to get notice and watch the amazing northern lights from your mobile when they show up to see what a treat waits for you next winter. 🙂 To get the app its best to search on the internet for " Live Aurora Network" from there you can see the procedure and also a link on our house. Or just send me a message and I will gladly help.
Make yourself comfortable in this cottage, which features a fireplace and a Smart TV. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access is available to keep you connected.
Pamper yourself with onsite massages or enjoy recreation amenities such as a spa tub. This cottage also features barbecue grills and babysitting service.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Great Location
The property is in a great location. My husband, 17 year old daughter, Aunt, Uncle and I enjoyed using the house as a home base. The aurora camera was one of the main reasons we booked the house but we never could get a response on how to use it, if it was even there. There is a broken board on the back deck so be careful when stepping out there. If my older Aunt had stepped on it first she would have fallen. Luckily my husband found it and warned everyone. There is a gate to access the property. This wasn't mentioned in the check-in information sent to us. Once we walked up the hill to the house and got in we found the clicker for the gate. There is construction taking place next door. They are as quiet as they can be but it can get loud. The house also shares a driveway with the house under construction. The cold tub was empty. The dryer took hours to dry clothes. Take pictures of everything when you first get there and right before you leave. The owner has accused us of ruining his cooktop. We explained that we used it once then decided to eat out the rest of the meals because the cooktop wouldn't stay on for us yet he has continued to accuse us of ruining it, demanding over $2700 to replace the cook top and repeatedly calling me a liar when I try to explain my side. The cooktop was fine when we left. I have never in my life dealt with such a rude vrbo owner. VRBO deemed the texts threatening and has suspended contact between me and the owner while its investigated.

Great location... good luck if something goes wrong
The good: great location. The bad: Gated community, but you have to hike to the house "high on the hill" to get a clicker that opens the gate. Driveway is so steep, workers (next door) were getting stuck in the driveway with their 2WD vehicles. The 2 BR in the loft is one room with a queen bed and a sleeper sofa. We chose a lower level bedroom because there is no bathroom in the loft (along with a door that said "Owners - Do not open Motion Cameras") - spiral staircases are cool but not safe my wife and I tripped several times. The 3 BR on the lower level are so small, the king size bed frame (with a queen size mattress) leaves 8 inches to each wall. We moved the bed away from the wall so my wife and I could shuffle around each side, then we were not able to close the door. No closets (that aren't already marked "Owner's Do Not Open"), no room for drawers or nightstands. One closet for your use in the entire house - small entry closet. Comforters one size too small (they only put linens on the bed they want you to use... in the loft... next to the "Motion Cameras" door. There is a downstairs light switch that trips a breaker that removes all power from the lower level. The washer and dryer would not turn on. Grill does not have a handle. No pantry. There is no local property manager. Ian is the owner - he is not local, he had to ask me what time it was at the house. Took 38 hours for Ian to reply to the dead dryer issue - no apology, but he did wish me a safe trip home.

Family Vacation
This was a *wonderful* home to stay in for our time in Iceland. It was a hub for lots of great day trips, but there was plenty to do in the house as well -- lots of great games, a beautiful kitchen to cook and eat in, and views galore. We didn't have time to use the hot tub, but I imagine that would also have been delightful!

Excellent Choice
This was a superb rental. It work for anyone wanting to explore the golden circle, the south shore such as Vik, and even Reykjavik which is an hour away. The rental was clean. The house was functionally designed, and furnished in an Icelandic look. The kitchen was supplied with all necessary gadgets. The area was safe. The laundry room was convenient. The view of the lake was amazing. We frequently used the outdoor hot tub, overlooking the lake. Contact with the host was helpful. In hindsight, this rental was a great choice for us to have made and is highly recommended to future travelers.

Stunning views, comfortable house, need a 4x4!
This house is new, stylish, and clean with a well stocked kitchen and stunning views. We came with 4 adults and 5 children, ages 10-17 and there were beds for all and plenty of space in the main living area for everyone to hang out comfortably. The manager is local, friendly and very responsive. There are two bathrooms, one on the lower floor where there are 3 bedrooms and a pull out couch, and one full bath by the front entrance on the main floor. There is a nice sized bedroom at the top which slept 3 comfortably and left space for luggage. That bedroom has no en-suite bath. The house is on a hill with expansive views of the lake. Getting up the steep gravel driveway proved challenging for us with our normal (non-4x4) rental cars, even in ideal weather. The listing does mention this and it should be taken seriously. If you have an appropriate vehicle, I would highly recommend this house!

Fantastic rental near Thingvellir National Park
Our family of 4 had a pleasant stay in late May. The property allowed us to prepare meals throughout our trip and relax in the hot tub after a long day of excursions. Dining at restaurants in Iceland is expensive! We were centrally located to almost all of our activities. Would highly recommend.

Perfect location for our first trip to Iceland for our exploration of Southern Iceland. Honestly cannot think of a thing that we needed that wasn't provided. If I had a wish list, it would have been nice to have an extra bathroom but we made it work just fine. I would highly recommend.

Hrafn was a gracious host and easy to contact. We enjoyed our stay despite some extremely windy and snowy weather. We didn’t get to use the hot tub, but we did take advantage of the northern lights camera; if it weren’t for the camera and notifications, we would have completely missed it!

Great Location!
Stunning lake and mountain views. Great location along the Golden Circle and only 50 min or so from Reykjavik. Remote yet close to Selfoss with grocery, shopping and restaurants. House was very well built. We had truly terrible weather during our stay and this house made us feel very safe from the strong winds and rain. Owner was readily accessible by text , phone or email and met all our needs. Highly recommend to those seeking remote lodging without the high price remote hotel pricing. Thank you Hfran!

Absolutely Perfect
This was an amazing property. The vista views out the back of cottage of the lake and the mountains were stunning at any time of day. The cottage was central to many of the tourist sites on the Golden Circle. It was well stocked with all the amenities of home. At night the skies are nice and dark for an avid photographer like myself. We were fortunate to see the Northern Lights for a few minutes as the sky was cloud covered most of our nights. The house provides a feed to the Aurora Network App (Camera #2). It's a paid app (for IOS and Android), but inexpensive and gives you alerts to your phone when the Northern Lights are visible. I would definitely recommend this site to friends and family.

Cottage-fabulous! Location-stunning!
Our family have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Iceland. Hrafn's cottage is great with all you could need (and more). It was very clean, the beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need. The TV den was a great spot to relax after a long day touring and we also made use of the Hot tub on a couple of occasions, relaxing and taking in the stunning scenery. Hrafn was a great host, providing us with some useful tips just prior to our trip and it was very nice of him to just drop us an email a couple of days into our stay just to check everything was fine and if we needed anything (we didn't as all was in perfect order for our entire 10 day stay). Wouldn't think twice about booking this cottage again and can highly recommend it. Lovely cottage in a great location for seeing the sights of South Iceland. Thank you for a great and memorable holiday Hrafn.

Iceland Gold!
Myself and a couple friends recently stayed at this property and I have to say it was an excellent choice! The location was fantastic as we were in Iceland to not only see some of the sights like Vik but play a lot of golf as well. The house was a perfect size for our fore-some and well equipped. Hrafn our host was very communicative and responds quickly to any correspondence. So to round this out I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking into visiting Iceland, I can imagine winter with the Northern light is awesome!

Lovely stay
Our group had a wonderful stay despite pretty erratic weather and lack of the northern lights. It's a great cabin that is fully stocked with everything you need. (Towels were a little light but we did not contact and ask for more we worked with what we had). It is in the perfect location for all the sites along the golden circle (including northern lights if weather permits) and an easy shot back into the city. The host is wonderful and able to answer all questions and provides tons of information about the area prior to your arrival. I plan on returning to Iceland to experience the warmer weather at some point but winter is beautiful.

Excellent Host and a wonderful charming property
Our first time in Iceland and wow what an amazing experience. The cottage is beautifully situated, very peaceful and very well furnished with all the amenities that you could need. The host was so friendly and helpful. Tha k you Hafran and family. No message or email was left unanswered. The hot tub was a great way to spend an evening with laughter and fun. The view from the cottage is awesome and very inspirational. The photos don’t do it justice - the place really exceeded our expectations and made our experience in Iceland really special and one we look forward to returning to. The cottage is well positioned - with easy access to a nearby town and really just over an hour or so to the capital. The cottage is positioned high on a hill overlooking a lake and mountains with a good view to every aspect from the dining/kitchen area. A Great location to return to after a busy day’s sightseeing. Peaceful and remote but we never felt isolated. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Cabin with a great view
We stayed at this cabin for its location so we could see the northern lights. We were not disappointed! It is nice and dark and quiet PLUS it is centrally located so it is easy to go and see many more attractions. The owner was very helpful in all aspects of the stay and was very easy to reach. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Cozy cottage with all the amenities!
Hrafn's cottage overlooking the lake was the perfect spot for my husband and I to travel and tour Iceland. The cottage was conveniently on Rt 36 making most of our destinations an easy drive away. During our stay we drove all the way east to Hof and saw Diamond Beach, Glacier Lagoon, and did an ice cave tour. We visited Seljalandsfoss, Selfoss, Gullfoss, Geysir, Thingvellir, and Silfra. We bathed in the Blue Lagoon and hiked to Steam Valley and lounged in natural hot springs. We hiked to Glymur Waterfall. And when we weren't doing those things we enjoyed all the cottage had to offer. The hot tub was a real treat and though we didn't see Northern Lights we enjoyed stargazing. The kitchen had everything I needed to make all our breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Further, Hrafn was a great communicator and answered all of my big and small questions and made sure our check-in and checkout were as easy as possible. The cottage was warm, cozy, and comfortable through our stay. He has it stocked with every need you can have while being away from home.

Stunning location, cosy house
Thank you Hrafn for making us feel so welcome when we arrived at your lovely cosy home last Saturday. We have had the most amazing week, there is so much to do and see - too much in fact so we will be back again soon. The cottage is in a great location for all of the golden circle spots, but also for hidden treasures too. The cottage was so warm and cosy after a busy day sightseeing and the hot tub finished the day off perfectly. I would not hesitate to recommend Hrafn’s home to anyone looking for a really good base to explore southern Iceland. Thanks again

Cosy house with lovely views, well located for the Golden Circle and southern region
We spent a very enjoyable week here in October '18 though weather was mixed. The house was warm with good accommodation for the family. The hot tub was a real novelty. Good communication with the owner. Highlights for us included Thingvellir; Gullfoss; horse-riding through the lava fields (my husband was even won over by the calm and friendly horses); exploring the south coast as far as the black sands and basalt columns of Vik taking in Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss, the views from the lighthouse at Dyrholaey and the glacial ice cap on Katla mountain; geysir (and delicious lamb soup in the cafe); Reykjavik; whale-watching from Reykjavik though we had no sightings of any marine life; the Fontana spa/buffet dinner deal with various pools and saunas of different temperatures and lake. Good location 20 minutes from Selfoss. We thoroughly recommend his property.
