If only Mercure did Penalty Shoot outs!

Our 2 days/ nights in Sherwood were very pleasant. Very friendly staff who gave me free parking as the card machine was playing up. I liked the way our was room decorated and it was bigger than Lodge rooms. Had a nice breakfast in the dining area and a swim and sauna. An easy walk into town centre, but there was a constant stream of buses to catch, both ways, if so desired. The only down side to our stay was Ipswich losing to Forest in the FA cup , but thats not down to the hotel, just a poor penalty!

A good hotel gone down market

I have stayed at this hotel under its various franchises over the year . Yes- it's OK but the food offering definitely needs improvement. I decided to take dinner in the hotel and I found the greeting staff extremely pedantic . I arrived at the restaurant at 7.26pm and althought there were about 20 empty tables, I was told the restaurant was booked out but come back after 7.30 - 4 minutes later !! Had a drink at the bar at their suggestion and returned to the desk at 7.40 to be told "we now have a table for you". The capacity was exactly the same as when I first arrived. Food was unimaginative, but OK. Returned the next morning for breakfast to find the table cloths has been removed exposing tables that were more shabby than shabby chic. The table surface was sticky to the elbow and I thought it was Wetherspoons!! The food offering again was bland and it felt like they were providing the minimum they could get away with. Small eggs , poor quality sausages and field mushrooms chopped in half! There is a huge car park which in the past has always been free of charge. To be charged £12 to leave your car in an unsecure car was , I thought , a bit rich The condition of the hotel outside the restaurant was OK but I really think something needs to be done about the very slippery wet stairs down to the swimming pool

I did not like the actions of the receptionist. Just before me a couple booked in and he told them all about the hotel etc. They asked about noise and he stated 'the best location is on the third floor, that's where I would go'. Then I stepped forward and he said 'did you hear all that?' I said yes, then he gave me my key to room 104. I got in the room and had a little sleep as I had been travelling most of the day. I realised he had put me on the busiest floor and right next to the lift and gym access. Not a happy customer!

Great hotel just outside city centre

This is a wonderful small hotel three bus stops from the city centre in Nottingham. The bar is very good--the chips were fantastic!--but the glass ceiling means the room gets very cold in the winter. Wrap up or aim for a more spring-summer-autumn stay. The service was consistently very good.

Good hotel - ideal for one night

Hotel is good. Stayed one night. Easy check in - but no one at reception for check out! Luckily there was a key drop off. Breakfast had a lot of choice but hot food kept running out and took ages to fill up (15 mins for scrambled egg!)

No heating for tiny room

Room was v small but nice apart from no heating as broken. I raised this but there were no other rooms to move us to. Was given a plug in heater but had to wait for it to warm up. This was poor. Also £12 per night car park charge should be included in the price. Again this is poor for an out of city centre hotel. Bar area was nice though.

Their problem was managed well for our benefit.

There was a problem with the Hotel overbooking. The Manager made a number of mitigations if we were prepared to share 1 room that worked for us. The food / drinks and service were all very good.

Staff very slow. Unable to cope in the bar despite 3 on duty. Rooms were very cold. Air conditioning did not work. Ended with an evolution in heater. Also very noisy. After 1am still people in the corridor talking loudly. Not a good stay considering we were there for a family funeral.
