A gem of a place to stay within a beautiful area. Beds and showers were really good but both dining and self-catering facilities needs improvement. We used the hostel as a base to explore the surrounding area and walks so it was perfect for us.
My sister and I stayed here whilst visiting a alton Towers and we had a brilliant stay. It was our first time in a YHA, the house was beautiful and in such a great location, very rural and pretty. All of the team were very helpful and welcoming. We made use of the nice lounge areas, bar and cafe for dinner and breakfast. We both felt the hostel was excellent value and we are planning lots more trips at YHA venues with our families.
Negatives - findings the place! There needs to be better signage and there is nil lightning from car park to the builidng. Its very very dark arriving. And trying to find the place and the care park.
Positives- everything else! Car park and building felt safe and its a beautiful location and building. Inside felt like every other yha, which is a bit of a shame but practical and functional. Clean. It was soooo warm! Which was a pleasant suprise. But also you could control this yourself once in the room. We went private room shared bathrooms. Which again. Functional but clean and fine.
Staff were lovely! Facilities good and i really wish i could have stayed for breakfast looked great.
Id love to come back here with more time and see the national trust site, village and area. The walking routes and info at reception are fabulous.
The coffee is great.
Will be back !
Fantastic value for money, very clean, building is old so expect condensation on windows and the like. If we had been organised would have taken a bag of microwave dinners and milk, communal kitchen has everything you could need. Only thing I missed was a kettle in room for cups of tea. Food from restaurant: breakfast very good with everything hot and tasty and as much as you like. Evening meal good but again my preference I would have liked hot water and teas and coffees left out like breakfast.
Attended with my son in an en suite room, for a trip to nearby Alton Towers. It is basic, but clean and perfect for our requirements. Wifi nit very good if this is required.

A very nice place
Very nice, clean, friendly, no wifi or phone signal.
Amazing location. Unfortunately covid put a damper on things and made things abit more difficult as I wanted to use the shared kitchen to make drinks etc but wasn’t allowed.
Would have been nice if the tellys were on.
But generally it was a cheap and cheerful break.
We stayed here whilst visiting Alton Towers. Room was clean and comfortable. staff were excellent and friendly. We would definately recommend this Youth Hostel.
Great stay for the August bank holiday weekend. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and spacious with a great view of the garden. I had no worries about any risk of COVID-19, all the measures that were put in place were great.
Amazing location, so many walking routes around.
Love it everything,hotel,very nice team,service,very helpful,amazing outdoor garden,❤️

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
This is the 5th year I’ve visited but the first with a toddler.
Lots had changed since we last arrived.
I think the place is amazing. Staff were friendly and the location is perfections.
Things that need to change- bring back the toddler play area in the lounge. It was the perfect from till you moved it all.
Please purchase some cots with actual mattresses. Travel cots and wooden bases are horrendous and we didn’t get much sleep.
As an old building it gets very warm and the windows don’t open. Please get some fans for the rooms.
Prices on alcohol and hot drinks has gone up loads! £3.50 for a tin of beer is shocking!
This hotel was just what we needed. My friends and I only needed a hotel for one night and we had a budget to stick to. This hotel provided us with a bedroom with beds and bedding, I had a good night sleep, my friends either had a good night sleep too or found the mattress to be hard. Can't please everyone. The grounds were beautiful. We walked round the entire grounds the evening we arrived and again the next day after breakfast (we had brought in).
