Tan Terfyn has a queen bedroom, a double bedroom and a third room with single bed. It has been renovated and has a modern bath/shower room, convenient kitchen and comfy living area with sofas, wood stove and TV. At the back there is a fully fenced patio area with BBQ and patio table and chairs which looks out into Murramarang National Park.
Visitors say the house is like the TARDIS - apparently small from the outside but much larger on the inside!
Between the beach, Murramarang Park and Durras Lake
Pronounced "tanterafin", Tan Terfyn is welsh for "up to the edge" or "as far as the boundary" and that sums up this location. You are on the edge of the Muuramarang National Park but also by the banks of the fascinating Durras Lake and close to beautiful Durras Beach.
Carry your surf boards and boogie boards down to the beach for hours of fun. Or walk south along the beach to Durras Village where you will find a handy General Store with supplies, pizza and coffee. In you decide to walk north along the beach you will enjoy miles and miles of practically deserted coastline, rocky headlands and, if you walk far enough, the renowned beaches at Pebbly Beach and Pretty Beach.
Serious walkers can hike along the beach and then take trails to the peak of Mount Durras for a real feel of achievement and a fantastic view.
Durras Lake
Durras Lake is completely enclosed within Murramarang National Park and at 6kms long, deceptively large. There is a boat slip at the end of the street for serious fishermen who want to launch into the lake. But at the moment the recent rains have left the lake wonderfully full and a canoe as the best way to explore its secret places. There is a canoe rental company just up the street or you can bring your own.
Don't miss seeing the 'race' where Durras Lake has recently broken through the beach to join the ocean. This is particularly exciting at high tide. For years you could walk along the beach from South Durras to North Durras and beyond - now you need to be ready to swim the lake entrance channel!
