Holidays in Srpska Crnja

Forgetting a nine a.m. meeting with your boss is a pretty clear sign that you need to get away. So why not step off the beaten track to Srpska Crnja and explore the picturesque forests, rivers and streams of Serbia? (The only thing you'll need to remember is how to chill out!)

It's found 100 kilometres from Belgrade and its busy streets.

While you're here, make the journey to visit one of the region's most iconic attractions, Piata Uniri. Venture to Timisoara, 45 kilometres to the east, and you'll be just a hop, skip and a jump away.

Jimbolia is 9 kilometres to the north and worth visiting. After even more ideas? Srpski Itebej, 17 kilometres to the south of Srpska Crnja, should be on your itinerary.

Arad, 70 kilometres to the northeast, is worth a day trip. You can use it as a port of call when swinging by Arad Fortress, Arad City Hall and the Piata Libertatii. If you're still not convinced, other nearby attractions include New Orthodox Cathedral and Piata Avram Iancu.

An exciting way to explore the surrounding region is to embark on an outdoor adventure. Mountain climbing is one of the most popular activities in these parts. But if that doesn't quite take your fancy, there's always hiking.

When the mercury plunges, the fun begins. Grab your coat and gloves and have a go at snowboarding or skiing.

There's no saying just what you'll discover inside the doors of the region's art museums, history museums and art galleries, but you can be confident it's going to be intriguing!

Satisfy the historian within by going to some ruins, castles, traditional villages, fortresses, historic palaces and archeological sites. They're all fabulous places to learn a few things about the region's past.

There's no need to be religious to enjoy Srpska Crnja's monasteries. Learn a bit about the local beliefs and find some calm at the same time.

'There is no love sincerer than the love of food,' George Bernard Shaw once said, but add travel to the mix and it's a marriage made in heaven. You're invited to unite your two loves by eating and drinking your way through Serbia.

If you're leafing through a menu, there's every chance you'll see dishes with cabbage or onion. They're just two ingredients commonly used in the fare here.

On the hunt for a distinctive Srpska Crnja eating experience? There are some specialties to watch out for, such as karadordeva (stuffed veal) and pecenje na raznju (spit-roasted meat).

If a life without dessert isn't an option, you should definitely spoil yourself with some orascine (walnut pastry). This sweet treat tells the story of the area in just one mouthful.

Good news, beer enthusiasts. You'll be able to find some flavoursome, bubbly brews to throw back here. Enjoy a glass or three of Ruski Kvas in a comfortable bar and be sure to text your mates back at home, 'Wish you were beer'.

You'll be travelling all that way to Srpska Crnja, so why not put in a little extra effort to memorise a few words in the local tongue? It will make your whole experience all the sweeter. 'Srećan rođendan' translates to 'happy birthday'. Another common phrase is 'Dobro jutro' ('good morning').

Each year on the 15th of February, National Day occupies a special place in the hearts of the locals. It offers a fantastic chance to learn about the country's history and have some fun while you're at it!

"Vidimo se kasniјe!" doesn't need to sound so final. Why not hang onto a few Serbian dinars for your next holiday?

From the middle of Srpska Crnja, it's approximately 100 kilometres to the south to Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG). This is the nearest airport. Remember to give yourself ample time to get there so you don't miss your plane!
