Humble but great with dogs
After reading some of the other reviews after booking, I was nervous and skeptical. But upon our stay, we were very pleasantly surprised. We were traveling with our dog and were on the side of the dog park. The rooms were nothing to write home about but it was a place to sleep after exploring town and walking around for Nights of Lights. The hotel supplied a dog bed and bowls. The bed came in very handy as our little guy took advantage of it. They even let him ride the shuttle with us and were extremely accommodating. Would likely stay again if we were to visit another time.

I have stayed here twice before this time and enjoyed it. This time, however, our room was extremely humid and stuffy. Our clothes and other items were damp it was so humid. I’m not sure what the deal was. The breakfast was not as good as usual either. It was cold and not fresh. I love this hotel’s dog friendly atmosphere, but I was not impressed this time.

Quaint hotel with updated rooms and free breakfast in a convenient location. Our room wasn’t ready at check in, so we were upgraded to Deluxe Room right away. Would definitely book again.

The front desk staff were outstanding. My sister & I have some mobility issues and traveled with our two small dogs. They couldn't have been nicer. Would recommend highly. Just remember, being nice carries alot of weight. And nice is free.

Good Place for the Money
The room had a small coffee pot, microwave, and small refrigerator. The hot breakfasts were also very nice. No phones in the rooms, though, so no way to call the front desk, and no way to call friends in other rooms unless both parties had cell phones and were able to use them.

It was a very outdared hotel. It hasnt been renovated since the 70s. Shower works well for petite to small build people. I didnt fit, 6 ft tall. But it does the job for a few nights. Didnt make it to breakfast, it is offered. Dog friendly a plus.

Southern Oaks Inn, No, no, no
The company agreed to a price for our overnight stay. When we arrived at 4:00 PM we were told there was an additional fee attached to our bill. I objected and they said to take it up with Hotels.com. I asked to speak with the manager. They said no manager was on site. Perhaps tomorrow-maybe not. Since I could not cancel I was stuck with this outrageous fee for which I received nothing but bad mouth. My suggestion is for visitors to go down the street a short distance and find a room in a different hotel that does not charge an extra $25 for nothing that I want.

We didn't ask for a ground floor room, it's our fault. Next time I'll ask for a ground floor room, it's getting harder to climb stairs. Maybe you should have at least one firm pillow. I know I should have asked. Next time.
