We had made the decision to move from a boutique environment at which we stayed with friends, to the north part of the island, away from tourists.Sauteurs is a totally local town at the tip of the island. Our hotel, situated in a building with a small restaurant and a credit union in the front, hotel in back of the building, locked entrance and one flight up (there is a second floor as well). The rooms line up on either side of a clean, hallway (some hallway furniture). We had the front room on the second floor. It had excellent air conditioning, tv with many stations, and good WiFi, Microwave, iron, etc. The bed was comfortable. The modern bathroom had agood shower, etc. People on the floor were considerate of each other, and quiet in the halls. The streets, just below us were quiet after dark and until 9:ish in the morning. The staff were really supportive, helpful, friendly, etc. Food in the small restaurant met our needs. We had gone to Sauteurs to be near locals, and infact we were the only non-locals. We rented drivers to take us to and from wonderful ocean beaches near to Sauteurs. Do NOT try to drive in this area. Roads are windy and hazardous. The sidewalks are uneven, but one can use the curb in most instances. People were all very accommodating and nice to us. The town has many small business run by "locals"...It is totally rural! Just outside are large orchards of local fruits/vegetables. We visited a rum factory, chocolate factory, spice areas, etc.
