Very good

One of my two favourite hotels in Stratford upon Avon. On this occasion, only let down by two maintenance issues . No room phone and a faulty room safe. Otherwise, I would have rated it excellent on all counts.
Excellent location to the centre and it really easy to walk to and we felt safe doing so at night. Unfortunately for us, we felt the room was noisy and we could hear other guests walking in the corridors and the rooms either side and above us. The bed was also very creaky. This is understandable with it being an old building but as a light sleeper and us having our dog with us this did make the stay harder and meant we didn’t sleep well. The room was nice but tired in places and the shower didn’t have good water pressure. The ceilings were also quite low, which would be fine for those of average height but as tall people we did struggle with this. The Elemis toiletries were a nice feature. The Hotel is set in lovely grounds and the lounge was also lovely with a fire going. We do however feel that an additional £7 charge on top of the room fee to park the car was harsh given the price of the room itself and parking offered.
We have stayed in Stratford a number of times over the last 28yrs, this was the first time at the Alverston Manor - on arrival we were checked in very quickly and when we arrived at our room there was a small box of chocolates as a gift for my wife (as it was her birthday) which was a lovely surprise
However, the room was a Standard Double, and not the Deluxe Room booked
So I popped back down to reception, upon informing the chap on reception, he checked the booking and told me that the room we was allocated was a Delux.
I had quite clearly booked a traditional room in the old part of the hotel with drapes over bed etc, and the room they had given me was in the extension building, so I knew as we arrived that it was wrong
I showed him the pictures from the website clearly showing it to be the wrong room, after a while looking at the screen he apologised which miffed me a little as I now thought he was trying it on! He said they only had one room left in the old part of the building (this was also nothing like what we booked!)
I was then told to wait in our room until the manager got in 30mins later to try and sort something. Instead we decided to go and wait in the bar. I went back to reception to inform them of our whereabouts and the lady on reception told me that there was another room!?
She showed us the room, and although it wasn’t exactly what I had booked it was slightly similar and I didn’t want to make any more of a deal about it! So we took it! Sorted!
Generally ok but all communal areas very cold and room heating didn’t seem to be working. There was a plug in radiator but it took a long time for the room to warm up. The pool was very good but again very cold (and no hot tub) so I personally was not able to swim. Bathroom a bit tired with cracked sink. Bar service and food very pleasant.

Very pleasant experience in Strattford-upon-Avon
We have spent a wonderful night at Mcdonald Alveston Manor. People at the reception was very nice and friendly and we received a very much appreciated upgrades on our room due a party would have been going on that night close to the room we have had booked online and this could have been an issue for us. The room they gave us was beautiful, spacious, clean and very quite. The bathroom as well was immaculate with plenty of space.
I would suggest just a little bit of more attention to the breakfast which was much under our expectations.
I would definitely come back again!

Liked: Property conditions & facilities
perfect for shopping and theatre in Stratford upon Avon. We had a charming room in the historic part of the hotel, and didnt use the spa so cant comment on that.
As a family party of 11 adults, 2 young children and a dog, this was an ideal place for us all to meet up and to exchange Christmas presents in a peaceful lounge area.
Staff were friendly and helpful, making sure we had all we needed and the rooms were quiet and very comfortable. The building itself is impressive and only a short walk to the town centre.
Checkin was slow. Bed was hard. Breakfast was without doubt the absolute worst I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. Shower leaked all over the floor and I soaked two towels mopping it up. Wasn’t told until the day before we arrived about parking charges.
Room was clean and spacious. Very convenient location.
We had a great time and a well situated hotel. It was a shame that the weekend we chose we had a storm and the Christmas market was cancelled. But that can’t be helped. Room was very cold but we told reception and they gave us a heater which was a great help. Would definitely book this hotel again
Quiet hotel within easy walking distance of the town centre. The facilities and pool area were very clean and staff were all friendly and helpful.
The rooms were a little on the dated side but also clean and tidy.
My only criticism is that the additional £7 fee per day to park in the hotel grounds after already paying for the hotel was a little unnecessary and disappointing.
When we arrived at late evening the room was not prepared with the correct beds. The tv was broken ( fuse had been removed)
We booked breakfast for 9.30 but the table was not prepared. We were in the bar area due to the dog which was absolutely fine. However the cleaner continued to clean and hoover around us while eating breakfast.
