We booked 3 family rooms - one room looked good, one was not bad and the last one was like an old college dorm room with a very dated bathroom. The breakfasts and dinners were good and the staff was friendly and helpful. We liked the bar and lounge area and there was entertainment on one evening. Overall a good value for the money and an enjoyable experience

A most pleasant surprise in the heart of the highlands. A gracious old building, welcoming staff, great rooms and good food all came together to make for a great stay. Would have liked to have spent a bit longer, but have flagged for a return visit once retired. Strathpeffer was a total surprise and made for an even nicer stay!

Spacious room, but tired. Nice towels. Shower alternated hot /cold, no control. Felt very historic in a nice way. Easy parking. Lovely staff. Dinner menu was ok. Breakfast was good.

Booked 2 twin rooms. The first one was very small and felt extremely dated, however the second one was huge and airy with a very nice view of the village. The reception was next to the common area and there was live music when we showed up making it very hard to understand what the hotel staff were saying. Overall I guess it depends on your luck what type of room you get

The Highlander is an historic hotel in a stunningly beautiful location. With huge proportions and lovely detailing, her past grandeur has dulled but character remains. I would love someone to inject some cash for refreshment into her, she's worth it.

The main bar area is really good. The rooms are average and could do with an update. A bit overpriced

Great location, poor hotel...
I don't like leaving negative reviews... so we'll start with the positives - great location, friendly staff and bags of potential. In reality, this hotel is very tired and of a poor standard. It was probably the 'place to be' in the 1980's but it's not been updated since. Our room at the front of the hotel had a lovely view (well done Scotland), but inside the room was a different story with big patches of mould from a clearly leaking roof and very basic amenities - if they are renovating, this definitely wasn't one of the newer rooms. The twin beds were comfy enough, and we had a TV, but no remote... despite asking twice, we didn't receive a remote in our 3 day stay so the TV was needless. Breakfast was passable but basic (although the coffee was quite grim). The main bar area / atrium was huge but run down. It's such a shame because it could be wonderful... get an investor, spend some money and this could be a boutique hotel in a fab location and lovely outlook. But in its current state, I can't recommend - it feels cheap and old with minimal effort to maintain a decent standard.

Neglected Victorian Hotel
Tired Victorian hotel - unfortunately breakfast was limited and unremarkable definitely worth eating elsewhere - looked as if staff had put out half of what would normally be available (no yogurt, fresh fruit etc.) fried breakfast was fairly cold and staff not willing to prepare poached eggs to order. Room was fairly standard with soap dispenser not working properly and one of the most uncomfortable hotel mattresses I have ever slept on.

My stay in the hotel was unremarkable. The food was okay, as was the room. It was alright as a place to put one's head down for a night, but it was way over-priced for what was on offer.

Bedroom old looking very grubby hotel has not seen paint for years partly painted in bedroom but generally dirty looking fortunately bed was clean Room was not cleaned during our stay Could be very nice place if owner bothered to tidy it up Obviously relying on plenty overspill from inverness to fill rooms so don’t worry about condition of rooms I believe there are a few nicer rooms for vip

Filthy, dirty hotel room.
Pretty nasty. Room was really not clean at all. Floor was dirty and looks like only the centre of the room is ever vacuumed. Sheets had crumbs all over it and the bed was not even made properly. Even the cups for drinking water were dirty. Just all around felt like a dingy room. Water pressure in the bathroom is non existent.

Overnight in Strathpeffer...
This charming hotel sits on a hill above the town center. It has spectacular views from the rooms. The lobby, bar, sitting area downstairs is incredible with an old-time feeling. The rooms are basic but larger than expected. No a/c in the rooms though, just an open window.
Looking up at the hotel.

Outdated decor. My mountain view room was basic clean and comfortable however my colleagues family room had dirty tables and a little smelly. Dinner menu had very or no options, one fish, one veg and one meat option and thats it. The ingredients were or very poor quality. Only had the choice of scrambled eggs for breakfast thats all. Wifi signal in the rooms is very poor.

Travelling through Scotland with my daughter we booked this place on the day as there was very little left during holiday season so I wasn't expecting much given the modest price and that it was still available. Having looked up that it was the former station hotel (the station is long gone) I was expecting faded grandeur. It transpired that it had faded to nothing. From entering the dodgy double doors which had replaced what was clearly once a sensible revolving door it was clear this would be a disastrous stay. The receptionist doubled as a bar man - long wait and staff went incognito with no branded kit. Then the lift didn't work and there was no-one to carry our heavy bags up the large number of stairs. The room was dirty - lumps of dirt under the bath mat, a stain on a bed sheet, windows probably last cleaned in the last decade, heavily stained carpet. Bathroom suite c1974, shower took way too long to get to suitable temperature. They didn't even have fitted sheets on the beds with the inevitable consequence that the sheets came loose in the night. With all this we were not going to dine there in the evening or breakfast (noticed very few people were) and made an exit ASAP. Camping would have been much more comfortable and clean. Don't go! The one plus point was the staff were doing their best on shoestring resources - one kind chap put some food items in the hotel fridge for us.

Big hair in the sink when we arrived. Rooms are very old and outdated. Place is obviously used as accomodation for local tradesmen so makes it very difficult to get a parking space if arriving after 5pm. Hotel has huge potential. Very disappointing
