On the lookout for a hotel in Takao, Japan? Unfortunately, there aren't heaps of places to stay nearby. Just think of the drive as some extended sightseeing!

If you don't mind travelling 12 kilometres to get to central Takao, check out Nara. This area has 35 hotel options, such as the Hotel New Wakasa and Nara Hakushikaso.

Nabari is another place where you can kick back and get acquainted with the room service menu. Located 18 kilometres southeast of Takao, it's where you'll find the Sukodo Former School and the Danjiri Museum. Alternatively, you could stay in Kusatsu, 35 kilometres to the north of Takao, where you can pick from the Royal Oak Hotel Spa & Gardens and Urban Hotel Kusatsu. Shiga-kenritsu Omi Fuji Karyoku Park and Ameyama Cultural Sports Park are popular attractions to check out while in Kusatsu.

Pieri Moriyama Mall, the Sagawa Art Museum and the Mizunomori Water Botanical Garden are just some of the sweet things to see and do in Otsu. This regional centre is 40 kilometres north of Takao and has a population of 300,000. Why not also check out what's going on at Lake Biwa Bridge and the Lake Biwa Museum? Otsu has places to stay that should suit most tastes and budgets, such as the Biwako Ryokusuitei and Biwako Hotel.

Ever spent a night on the airport floor cos you got too excited and forgot to book any accomodation? Save yourself some stiff limbs and see if you can score a room at the Fine Garden Toyonaka Osaka Interntl Airport - Adults Only or the Reftel Osaka Airport Hotel. Neither are far from Itami Airport, which is just 50 kilometres from the centre of town.
