Beautiful Rustic Cabin Right on the Pecos River.

This 19th Century mountain cabin which sets right on the Famous Pecos River in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Tererro, NM. The Cabin has been studied, dated, and is one of the three original homesteads on the property. This is a true historic site built by my great grandfather in 1867 & maintained by descendants of the original family for seven generations one of the last three original homesteads on the property. The cabin has a kitchen, and dining area with seating for 6. There is one bathroom and one bedroom with a comfy queen bed along with a cozy sitting area. There is one rollaway twin bed. We are pet friendly. There is a $50 fee for each pet you bring. This is an outdoors enthusiasts dream come true. Start by waking up early and having your coffee on the river patio right at your front door, enjoying the view of humming birds, mule deer and turkey moving through the river banks. Enjoy some of the best fly fishing in the world for Rainbow and German Brown trout without ever needing to go more than just a few feet on your own private section of the river. Later before lunch comb the area for arrowheads, fossils, turquoise and silver. The small now ghost town of Terrero was made famous as a busting mining town in the days of the old west. The original mine sets less than a half mile from the cabin across Hwy 63 from the entrance to property. After cooking some of those fresh cold water trout for lunch take a hike up the canyon in the middle of the Sante Fe National Forrest to see elk, eagle, deer, turkey, chipmunk and other wildlife. If the quiet seclusion is too much don’t worry, the town of Pecos is only about a 25 minute ride through the beautiful river canyon. The old Tererro General Store is closed due to Covid. I’m not sure if or when they will reopen. Here you can enjoy other amenities like horse back riding, guided pack tours, and for the sportsman out there guided elk, deer, longhorn sheep and bear hunts. Be sure to check out the Tererro General Store's Facebook page for activities and other amenities. For a more vibrant experience head to the historic town of Sante Fe which is about a 45 minute ride south where you will experience excellent southwest cuisine inspired by native chilies harvested from the area as well as native southwestern art, and heritage. The town also receives its fair share of entertainers from local bars to large scale concerts. Be sure to hit Jacolopes on Cerillos for great souvenirs and the Native Market at 'Old Towne' for authentic southwest jewelry, and art. After a day in town come back to a quiet evening, start a fire in the pit and enjoy the clearest sky you will ever see. The stars are countless and the evening air is cool, just like the perfect fall night, but in summer. At last you will be rocked to sleep by the sound of the rushing river outside. A true paradise awaits you. For interesting reading on the area be sure to look up “Pioneers of the Upper Most Pecos”, and “Beatty's Cabin”.
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned cabin, which features a fireplace. There's a private balcony or patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access is available to keep you connected.
Take in the views from a garden and make use of amenities such as barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Peace in the Mountains
This is a wonderful spot high in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains but still close enough to civilization. Sondra is a wonderful hostess who answered any question we had. This is the place to get back to nature.

Decompression, Beauty, and Peace
We were looking for a quiet place to spend a few days on the front end of a two week trip. Instead of leaving work stresses and jumping straight into sightseeing/vacation to-dos, we wanted to relax, read a book or two, fish for dinner, breathe mountain air. This cabin met our needs perfectly! The only thing that would've made it better is being completely remote. However, we neither saw, nor heard anyone else except for the river, deer, turkeys, a coyote, many birds, and a few fish we caught for a couple dinners (TROUT TACOS!) We couldn't recommend this peaceful riverside cabin more highly!

Beautiful, peaceful get away!
We absolutely loved this beautiful get away! If you want to have a peaceful relaxing trip, this is it. The river is right out your door! The area is well kept and such a great view in all directions. The cabin has all you need. My husband caught 6 fish! It is comfortable and we loved the wood stove in the evening. Our host was so kind and helpful. It is now our favorite place, we will be back!!

The River of Relaxation
We loved the location, seclusion, and the sound of the river. The fishing was good. The cabin was rustic and has a few things that need attention, but it had everything we needed for cooking. The host was gracious and was basically invisible unless we needed something. We would definately come back.

Peace and quiet
Relief of tensions of the world — no cars, no noise, no people — just the rushing waters of the Pecos River and flitting of the hummingbirds! We have now recharged our batteries! You could go fishing in the river or the pond (catch and release. Sit in the sunshine!

hidden gem
Sondra’s cabin was a treat, literally on the river. it felt like we were on a deck of a boat looking down at the river. the soothing sound of river flowing so close was something we have never experienced before. we even had luck catching a fish or two right there!Cabin itself had good vibes and was clean with amenities. Sondra was available to answer any questions as she lives right next door.very private property, backing up to the national forest.a small creek runs through the property as well. our son practiced his first fishing in a pond on the property. perfect deal for people wanting to learn fly fishing. couldn’t have asked for more in a quiet retreat away from daily hustle bustle. will definitely go again we enjoyed it very much.

Awesome location
Thanks for allow us to stay at your wonderful cabin. We found the listing to be accurate and in a safe location. We recommend picking up ALL of what you will need prior to driving into Pecos as there aren’t that many store options in town, and the drive to the cabin is easy 20-25 minutes one way. We loved the continuous sound of the Rio!

Remote but beautiful
The description was accurate. It is a gorgeous location. So many beautiful areas to visit within couple of hours. My only negative is we had no cell service. It made me a bit anxious but overall a great place to get away from it all!

Cute Cabin
Cute little cabin. The property is amazing. There is a cabin about 5 feet behind this one and unbeknownst to me the owner lives in the cabin. The picture of the kitchen is the cabin next door. We booked three nights and on the second day campers with tents started showing up. It was typically a campground with kiddos running around and no provacy.

Very rustic.
The overall property was quiet and beautiful. The cabin was very cramped with heavy exposed wires along head and side of bed. The toilet is not seated well so there’s a constant odor coming from the bathroom. None of the wood gathered on the property burns so you would need to bring your own wood for the wood stove which is necessary to stay warm on cold nights. Otherwise, I enjoyed fishing a private stretch of the Pecos river while my wife enjoyed spending all day sitting out in nature.

Pecos River Stay
My brother and I stayed 3 nights. We had a good time fishing the lovely Pecos River and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. The cabin had everything we needed for cooking. We had to take all our garbage with us when we left, but Sondra directed us to the site for disposal. The fall colors and starry skies were beautiful!

Fall trip
Very nice well maintained rustic cabin located on the Pecos R. in New Mexico. Where my wife and I spent 7 nights. Very relaxing with beautiful Fall colors. River great for fly fishing. Cabin was set up with most items needed except the food/personal items you need. The only negative experienced was a septic tank odor that was present which we covered it with a smell good candle. Would recommend it for a get away and we also would consider going back for another stay.

Quaint getaway
If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go! Definitely off the beaten path, but well worth the adventure getting there. We used it as a base for exploring back roads. I was surprised to see that the owners house was within about 4 feet of the cabin. This is not reflected in the pictures posted. Also, you might want to consider bringing your own drinking water as there is a strong scent of sulfa in the tap water. Overall, it was a very positive experience and we are glad that we stayed there. 😀😀😀

A special place on the Pecos River
Husband and I stayed here for three days. The property is spectacular, six acres along the Pecos River. The cabin is charming, rustic and unique in its location along the Pecos, with the incredible forest adding to its charm. Our host was great in welcoming us, providing historical information about the property and even cooking us her special dumpling meal. The cabin itself is basic but this adds to its uniqueness. We will go back again; loved the experience.

Lovely and peaceful!
The cabin was cozy, neat & clean, and surprisingly well appointed. It's rustic enough to satisfy that desire, but has been updated with a comfy bathroom, a usable kitchen, a window unit A/C in the bedroom half of the house, a stand fan to pull the cool air to the front room, and a porch big enough for the 3 of us to relax comfortably and to fish off of! The bed is VERY comfy, and the host left us plenty of towels, etc. Seating at the kitchen table is ample; we spent quite a bit of time there. My husband and grandson fished from several places along the property, as well as in the little pond. There are multiple seating areas outside. (I think I tried them all!) We took advantage of all the amenities except for the cast iron stove, opting to use the grill on the porch for almost every meal. There's a cook top, a microwave, a toaster oven, 2 coffee makers, and a small refrigerator (which was bigger than we expected). Sondra, the host, was very communicative before our stay, going out of her way to answer all our questions as completely as possible. No complaints, only RAVES!!
