The 24 hours front desk staff were very helpful in helping us with weighing and storing our luggage, and calling a taxi for us. We were very happy with the excellent service. I liked how the tea cups came with a lid! There is a separate sink outside the shower and toilet area so it's helpful. For the price and location, the room is quite spacious - larger than expected for Ikebukuro area.
The building itself is quite dated, and the shower drain does not drain well - bath water started to accumulate after a couple showers (took 15 minutes after showering for the water to completely drain away, argh). The washroom has no vent so it gets a bit smelly after a while. The hotel has old walls that does not block noises well, and you can hear the street and people talking in the hallway. The mattress is comfortable, though pillows were too soft - a common issue with Japanese hotels. There are no outlets by the head of the bed so we had to charge our phones at the counter.
It is very conveniently located, less than 5 minutes walk from the North-East exit of Ikebukuro station. Lots of shopping options nearby, and a convenience store right outside. They only have one escalator that leads to the lobby - you'll need to use the stairs to go outside after 11am, though they are able to reverse the escalator direction if you need to bring heavy luggage downstairs. This would be inconvenient for people with mobility issues.
We might stay here again but it won't be our first choice.
