My husband and I stayed in this hotel in 2020 before the lockdowns, and now again for 1 night in March '21 during the 3rd lockdown, so we can compare the service.
In 2020 we could leave our luggage at the reception when we arrived before the official check-in time of 3pm, now it's not possible; there is no one there before that time. You can reach them by phone though. Beware: the receptionist only stays there until 5 or 5.30 pm, unless you warned them of a late arrival.
Check-in was smooth. We got 2 electronic cards with which we could open the front door and the door of our room. We were told to leave those in a special box when we checked out in the morning.
The room was big and clean. It has a comfortable double bed (I would like some ergonomic pillows though), a shower,a sink ,an separate toilet, a flatscreen tv, a medium size fridge, and since the lockdown: a table at which you can eat in the morning and the evening.
Plates, glasses and utensils can be found in the bar next to the reception.
In 2020 restaurant Esaki could be reached through a door in the lobby. Now this door is closed when the receptionist goes home, so you have to walk around the block to get your take-away dinner.
Breakfast is always extra; but is is worth it's price ! In 2020 it was a buffet, now it's an extensive breakfast box, with croissants, buns, sandwiches, different cheeses and kinds of ham, eggs, butter, jam, chocolate and gingerbread spread, brownies, water, fruitjuice and coffee or tea.
