Don't let the name bnbto fool you. This is essentially a hostel. Private bedroom with shared bathroom, shower, and kitchen. However, this place was clean and I felt secure in it since every room/bathroom/shower had a quality lock. I do want to emphasize that this place was clean and everything appears to be recently renovated, even if it looks like they got their materials from IKEA. Again, it's plain and simple, yet functional. This worked for me, but if you're looking for fancy, stay in a hotel.
This is the "no frills" version of a hotel. The room consisted of a bed (mediocre, but not necessarily uncomfortable), a bench for sitting, and a coat rack to hang a few things. There was heat in the room, but no A/C, and the temperature was not controllable, which is my only real complaint. I felt a little warm while sleeping, so ended up opening the window, but the window was small and it let in a lot of noise from the road and people (it's near a bus stop).
Other than that, we could definitely hear other people moving around, closing doors, using the shower, etc, but lucky for us that other guests were quiet and respectful. I gather that this is usually the case.
One final note is that this place is located in a cute neighborhood called Cabbagetown, which we loved. The local nightlife was excellent (gastro pubs, local restaurants, etc). The downside to this is that the location is a bit far from downtown. Parking in Toronto stinks, so rent bikes or get ready to walk a lot.
