DO NOT STAY HERE!
To begin, this property charges an illegal tenant deposit; for me, a value of $250. In accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act of Ontario, landlords are not legally allowed to collect damage deposits at the time of signing a tenancy agreement. If damages to the unit or building occur during your tenancy, the landlord is required to go through the Landlord and Tenant Board to seek payment.
Secondly, the rooms and living areas are unsanitary, unsafe, and quite honestly a hazard to any individual who attends them. The pictures attached can speak volumes to that. I checked in on June 16, with the intention of staying until July 14. I left on the 29th, simply because I could not stand it anymore.
Every night, the fire alarm went off like clockwork around 2:00-4:00 in the morning. I fully believe my room was entered on many occasions; the photos show the state of the lock on my door. This property has a history of break-ins, something told to me by another tenant. The only reason I stayed as long as I did was because they refused to refund me for my stay. So now, I’m out around $750.
The common areas are utter filth. There are holes in the floor, seemingly held down by rusty nails or screws. The outside reeks of urine, garbage, and cigarettes. Rubbish is scattered everywhere, along with an abundance of cigarette butts, despite the “no-smoking” regulations.
For your own safety and sanity, stay as far away as you can from these building managers.
