Cabins on the Toutle River , 646 South Toutle Rd.

I have put a few years in building my little get away, for family and friends, and this year I have decided to open it to the public to rent, first thing i want to mention is I hand cut every board , beam and plank myself, other then the floor which were boards over 125 yrs. old that came from a homestead cabin near here, I actually have 2 cabins, one is the main living cabin and the other i call Bunkouse #1 which has 2 sets of bunkbeds for extra sleeping and storage space, there is a small loft with one full size bed and a small set of drawers, it is confy with the short ceiling, but the view out to the North is amazing, you can see out to the end of the property where the rivers are and also Mt. Rainier in the distance, also the couch in living space is a hide a bed, The cabin is completely off the grid, I will meet with you at the property to go over a few things to know all pretty basic but power is provided with solar panels, but if battery cells run low there is a back up power inverter, which can be started remotely from inside the cabin or outside, as the picture shows I have a porta potty, but just recently added a full bathroom with a inside toilet! , the property is completely fenced in for pets and small children don't get lost, there is a trailhead at the back of yard in the pic, this leads you to the edge of a active beaver pond, and to walk the trail to the river, which is where the North Fork and South fork join and is the border of my east end of my property, you will have to cross the beaver dam then about 1/8 mile to the river, which is normally crystal clear and very warm in the summer, and is only about a 10 min. easy hike out to the river, there is a lot of hiking area around my property I am almost surrounded by Washington State Dept of Fish and Wildlife property. the cabin is heated by propane which i provide also, as well as the water heater for the shower, which there is a small shower room in the cabin with a shower and sink, pots and pans, silverware, cups are provided, firewood for the campfire is also provided, I have a nice color tv with DVD player with many, many DVDs, all family approved, my cabin located 60 miles north of Portland in the small community of Toutle where my family history goes back 130 yrs. there is a small general store 1/2 mile from the cabin, Silver Lake, which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful lakes in the state, and is excellent fishing and watersports and the main resort is approx 2 miles from the cabin, also the cabin is just off of hwy504 better known as mt. St. Helens hwy, which has lots to do for visitors, from hiking, fishing and 2 different centers, Seaquest state park is also only about 5 minutes away, Long Beach Península and Ilwaco wa. on the pacific ocean are only about 1.5 hours away. There is a lot to do and besides giving you info on off grid living, I can also let you know when and where to go see a herd of wild horses which the herd has been in the area for over 100 years, and is only 5 minutes away where they come out in the afternoons, early in the mornings are the best time to see the beaver, from the edge of the yard down the bank to there pond, also we have a lot of deer come thru, I have seen otters in the river playing and also there are a few Bald Eagles nest in nearby, in the one pic is my grandkids playing in the river when a eagle flies right over them to catch a fish.

Great Location, Awesome Host
This cabin was exactly as described in the posting. It was beautiful, secluded, and clean. The host was very welcoming, helpful, and kind. He took his time guiding us through how everything in the cabin works and could not have been more friendly and welcoming. I cannot recommend this little get away spot strongly enough!

Great stay!
Cozy little cabin! Mark met us when we arrived and showed us everything we needed to know for the off-the-grid property. Went and saw the beaver dams nearby, and also saw some wild horses per a tip & directions from Mark. Would stay again!

Homey cabin not far from Mt. St. Helens
We stayed at Mark’s cabin because it was somewhat close to Mt. St. Helens. Here are some things we liked about the place and some that can be improved on. We liked that it had a fenced in yard for our dogs to run around in. Mark was also very responsive whenever we needed assistance with anything, and you can tell that he has put great effort into the place. There was a problem with not having hot water while we were there. Mark apologized for that, noting that he would fix it, and he offered us a free night if we came that way again. You may also have to purchase some fuel on your own if you want electricity 24/7, and as noted by others before, the place can use some cleaning.

Cute and convenient
We booked an overnight stay to celebrate a birthday and spent some time at the Toutle motocross track. The cabin was cute and had everything we needed. The boys enjoyed the bunk house.

Quiet getaway to Mt St Helens
Great cabin on a really nice property tucked away in Toutle. It's on the more rustic side of the rentals, but exactly what we were looking for. Great times by the campfire, walking along the river, and had some drives in the area to see wild horses and incredible views.

Beautiful cabin nestled next to mt st helens, about a 40 minute drive from the mountain. River access was advertised but we were not able to access it on the advised trail.

Relaxing weekend
I stayed the entire weekend and everything was great. The bed in the loft was very comfortable, even with my bad back. It was quiet and peaceful. Just what I needed. I'll be back for sure.

Great Spot!
What a neat getaway! The private river access was the highlight, just a short walk. We were fortunate with the weather and it was so nice to wade in the chilly water when we felt too warm. The dogs LOVED running around the large fenced area and even got in the water a bit. We arrived later than expected due to traffic and Mark (host) was waiting to show us how to work the equipment and had even started a campfire for us. The cabin it's is darling! Very neat that Mark built the place himself. The only slight negatives were road noise (not a real busy road, but you are right on it) and sleeping on an air matress (we have bad backs). All the positives waaaay outshined those 2 things, though! We look forward to visiting again next Summer!

Mark was a very helpful host and the place is very rustic, which we like. But the solar panels don't store enough energy to keep the fridge on and the lights. Also, the water stopped pumping in the morning, so no water to flush toilet.

Rustic getaway
So peaceful. A lot of room to play and all the necessary amenities and then some, DIY offgrid but easy to make it work. Wifi spotty, a plus if you want to, or want your kids to, unplug, unwind and enjoy. Great scenery. Cute kids bunkhouse plus the main house. Loved it.

Cabin on(near) river
Mark was very communicative and supported us in all of oyr requests. This is a cozy place with a huge yard and loots of outdoor things to do near by, including walking out back to the river and swimming. This is a quiet area with lots of space to enjoy.

The owner was very communicative and overly generous in what he provided for our stay going above and beyond what we expected. Our own plans got canceled due to unexpected road closures but there was plenty to due on and nearby the cabin property and the peaceful environment lended itself well for me to get lots of reading done while the kids ran around the spacious environment. There were some unexpected problems with the solar power system but this wasn't a big deal as the gas generator worked flawlessly. You do have to be mindful of water usage since it is brought in and there is a finite supply. I would describe this as a cross between a hotel room and camping with all the best things of both . Would definitely recommend this place and love to come again.

Great location and fire pit
Loved the area and property location right near the river. Great yard and huge fire pit area with hammock. The cabin and sleeping areas are very small but we had everything we needed. Make sure to bring a map as the location is tricky to find and none of our cell phones worked up there.
