Holidays in Trout Lake

When chucking a sickie becomes way too easy, it's time to ditch the daily grind and say hello to Trout Lake!

It lies 3,700 kilometres west of United States of America's capital, Washington.

There's no need to travel for hours to discover some impressive natural sights. Hop in the car and venture over to Mount Adams, 25 kilometres away from Trout Lake, for a chilled-out day. Or maybe The Dalles Dam Visitor Center is more your cup of tea? You'll find it 50 kilometres away.

There's nothing like rising with the sun and carving through fresh, fluffy snow at Mount Hood Meadows. Once you've checked out all the trails there, grab your skis and continue onwards to Summit Ski Area.

Into stopping at Husum Falls and Wind River Cellars? They're close to the middle of White Salmon, 16 kilometres to the south. Alternatively, you could head to Husum. It's 17 kilometres to the south of Trout Lake and well-known for the Husum Hills Golf Course and White Salmon River.

Go on an adventure and see what's on offer in Hood River. This place is 30 kilometres away and not far from Hood River Marina, the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum and the Indian Creek Golf Course. That said, don't miss the History Museum of Hood River County and the Mount Hood Railroad either.

An exciting way to experience the surrounding area is to embark on an outdoor adventure. Rock climbing is one of the most popular pastimes around here. But if that doesn't pique your interest, you could always go hiking.

Interested in spending time by the water? Add a few more thrills to your getaway with a bit of rafting or sea kayaking.

You'll find plenty of interesting things packed into the region's art galleries.

Want a bit of fresh air? Organise an excursion to one of the surrounding area's open-air markets.

Whether you prefer chasing Michelin stars or munching on a snack from a street stall, sampling the local food and drink is perhaps the best thing about travel. So why not treat your taste buds by digging into some of the area's appetising offerings?

Are you eager to know some of the essential ingredients used here? You should be prepared to taste crab and apples in many of your meals.

Celebrated throughout the country, Independence Day takes place on the 4th of July. If you're lucky enough to be here at this time, it'll be hard not to get swept up in the festivities!

Portland International Airport (PDX) is the closest terminal, 95 kilometres to the southwest. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get there.
