“Casa Hijuela”, disconnect from daily routine in a paradise in Valle de Mena, Las Merindades. A privileged spot, surrounded by nature in a tiny village with very well-preserved thick-wall stone houses. Big hall; 4 double bedrooms, one with TV; 2 bathrooms; 80 m2 terrace with barbecue, several seating zones and stunning views; attic with work area and children´s corner, with books and games; well equipped kitchen (without dishwasher); living room with chimney and 42" TV; a perfect base camp for hiking and sightseeing tours
SURROUNDINGS AND ACTIVITIES
Our house is in a unique and privileged environment, surrounded by wonderful nature, perfect for hiking, mountaineering and mountain-biking with countless routes for all levels. Children will enjoy the horses, cows, sheep that abound in the huge green meadows. Marvellous forest with waterfalls, fruit trees, yew, holly, beech and oak trees, where you can see griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures, eagle owls, peregrine falcons, golden eagles, wild boars and roe deer, the latter very easy to see. The abundant forest masses make this valley an area of mycological interest, with species such as fungi or April mushrooms. And how not to talk about the rich and varied gastronomy of the valley.
The region of Las Merindades treasures one of the most valuable Romanesque collections in all of Spain which, in addition to its good architecture, stand out for its enormous sculptural repertoire and will delight any fan of medieval art. And you can also do some stage of El Camino de Santiago, because "El Camino Olvidado" passes in front of the house. Good way!
In addition, it is very well located for multiple excursions, for example:

ACCOMODATION
House with thick stone walls, from the year 1900, with capacity for 8 people, completely renovated, heating in all rooms and fully equipped so that you feel at home from the moment you arrive.

It has 264 m2, of which 80 correspond to the terrace (previously orchard). This will be your favorite space, ideal to disconnect and savor the silence and stillness, only gently broken by the sounds of nature, the birds, the water of the Hijuela River, the breeze in the trees. Here you can enjoy the spectacular views of the wonderful nature that surrounds us, forests with all shades of green and the Montes de la Peña, an impressive barrier of limestone ridges that separates the Mena and Losa valleys.

On the ground floor there is a large hall/distributor, the kitchen/living room of 28 m2, a full bathroom, the terrace and a storage room with washing machine, dryer, iron and iron board, and cleaning products. The living room has a fireplace with cassette, 42” television and DVD with many movies (the DVD may be located at the storage room), two sofas and an extendable table for up to 12 people. The kitchen has kitchenware, with good knives, pans and rags, in case you are a cook, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, blender, oven, extractor hood, butane gas stove. It does not have a dishwasher.

On the first floor there is another complete bathroom, and 4 double bedrooms with these sizes:
• 11 m2 - two 90 cm beds
• 12 m2 - two 80 cm beds
• 15 m2 – one 150 cm bed and TV
• 16 m2 - one 135 cm bed

The second floor is a spacious attic with windows to the north and south, divided into two different areas, so you can choose, according to your needs: an area set up as an office, so you can work or study, with a screen, keyboard, table and office chair and another area for children with games and books, which will be the favorite of the little ones.
OTHER NOTEWORTHY ASPECTS

• There is no WIFI. The coverage is poor inside the house, due to the wide stone walls, but it works perfectly on the terrace and on the lower deck, where you can even hold video conferences without any problem.
• Please, do not smoke inside, it is very unpleasant that the house smells of cigarettes, for us and other guests.
• You are in a private house. I will appreciate it if you leave it as clean as possible for the next guest. Please, do not leave garbage in the house, the containers are less than a minute away, leaving the house on the right.
• I ask for sustainability in the consumption of water, electricity and gas, try not to leave the lights on when you are not inside the accommodation.
• You will have access to the entire house, with the exception of a bedroom on the ground floor dedicated to storage.
• The nearest airport is Bilbao, 50 min.
• There is no public transport in the town, so it is necessary to use a car.
• This is a small and very quiet town. You are kindly requested to be considerate of the neighbours, mainly in terms of hours of rest.
• Check-in after 2:00 p.m. and check-out before 3:00 p.m.
• We expect our guests to take care of both the house and the surroundings and nature.

Estrenando la casa!
Fuimos los primeros en estrenar la casa. Es la típica casa de pueblo, pero recien reformada. Salón amplio para 5, y suficiente para los 7 que estuvimos unos pocos días. El patio está muy bien, con buenas vistas y bien equipado (mesa grande, barbacoa, sombrilla y tumbonas). A pesar de que tiene unos cuantos escalones, los abuelos se apañaron bien. Las habitaciones, en la 2a planta, muy agradables. Hay 1 baño en cada planta. Tiene una buhardilla que es como una casita, que gustará mucho a los más peques, aunque hay que tener cuidado con la escalera. Mientras que en Madrid estaban a casi 40°c, nosotros estabamos a poco más de 20°c. Un lujo. Por la noche nos dimos el capricho de encender la chimenea!. La zona es muy bonita. En un radio de 1h en coche hay bastantes cosas que ver, con montañas, pozas de rio y mar. Los dueños, Marta y Javier, nos tenían preparada una guía de lugares que ver y donde comer. A pesar de ser finales de Julio, ningún sitio estuvo abarrotado de turistas. El coche se aparca a unos 30m de la casa. La cobertura de móvil es justita. Si eres móvil-adicto, tranquilo que pronto tendrán wifi ;-)
