The El Capitan is a gorgeous historical hotel. Beautiful rooms, gorgeous original tiles, cozy sitting room and the most fabulous courtyard. So romantic, a wonderful place to have dinner or a drink. The front desk attendants were pleasant and knowledgeable about the hotel. And the best cookies in the evening at the front desk. I call them evil good. It is hard to have one.
The only disappointment was the dining expedience. And I was kind giving 4 stars because the hotel is so amazing I felt bad. In short, food came out cold, when asked to reheat the $45 steak came back well done. The waitress was talking with people in courtyard. We asked for steak sauce. Nothing! We asked twice and we still waited. My husband asked for ranch, but got blue cheese. When I asked for ranch explaining this is blue cheese, which I tasted, she snapped back no it is not! She should be glad I didn’t pay the bill. The tip would have been very different. Try the other steakhouse in town.
