Travel back to another era as you wander around Wangdue Phodrang Dzong. This historical site has many tales to tell.

Remember to pack some orange and yellow clothing so you can cheer on the local soccer team, the Bhutan national football team, at Changlimithang Stadium. Located 25 kilometres away in Thimphu, the stadium is also home to the Bhutan women's national football team.

Expand your horizons and see what's going on in Punakha, 10 kilometres to the north. Plenty of visitors come here for the Punakha Dzong and the Chimi L'hakhang Temple. Alternatively, Phobjikha Valley is 25 kilometres to the east of Wangdue Phodrang. Visit this locality for convenient access to Gangteng Gonpa and Gangte Goemba.

If you're travelling via air, it's probably a wise idea to plan your route to the terminal beforehand. From the centre of Wangdue Phodrang, you'll need to go around 45 kilometres west to Paro Airport (PBH), the closest airport.
