CLOSED- OUT OF BUSINESS
Do NOT book this place!!! My husband and I booked a night at this place and when we arrived there was no one there. A for sale sign out front and a piece of paper taped to the door saying they were closed. They didn't even bother calling us to let us know to start looking for a different place to stay.

Odd odor
Booked 3 nts, was told on arrival we could only stay 2 nts as he was leaving/going out of business. Had to find other accommodations at more cost. Hot water heater was leaking, making the carpet wet and stinky. TV did not work. It was a rustic adventure. View from room great.

Disgusting place. Don't waste your time or money!
This supposed "waterfront" hotel is not at all as advertised. The owner offered to leave us the key in the door upon arrival. No wonder! The room is located in a trailer park by some body of water. Nowhere anything like the view in the pictures. that would not be that serious, but once inside the hotel room we could see right away that the floors and general areas of the room were unclean and unkempt. We were worried about the condition of the bed, with good reason. Once we lifted the covers, old sheets were loosely fixed over a mattress. When we uncovered these sheets, what we saw was beyond belief. A brown stained lumpy old mattress with duct tape holding it together. We immediately left the room without unpacking our bags and told the attendant that the accomodations were not acceptable and that we would be leaving to find accomodations elsewhere. The attendant told us that was fine and to have a nice day. Then when we checked our credit card the following week we realized that the Makiebares hotel ownership charged us the $100 for the room. When we requested a reimbursement through Expedia the ownership refused to honour it. This hotel is a shambles run by dishonest people.

Can't drink the water without boiling.
The cabin was ok. Everything dated but worked. Would probably be good for fishermen. Couldn't use the water for cooking, brushing teeth, cleaning food without boiling.

It was a good stay, I was there working in Wawa for a week. It was great, it was like being at camp. It had a nice view of the lake. It was a very good price.

Arrived at location 6:00 pm, Manager not on site; resident on the premises informed us that the trailer was occupied and that we, my husband & I were not the only people who were registered for that accommodation. We tried to find other accommodations in area, inquired at Information Centre only to be told there were no vacancies in the whole area in and around Wawa. We could not find a location until we reached Sault Ste. Marie...almost 3 hrs away. We had travelled almost 16 hrs. that day.....totally exhausted!!! Certainly would not book at that accommodation again!

Are you a Hunter?
Absolutely worst bed I've ever stayed in. Felt like plywood. Room was from the 60s or 70s and it gave that vibe. Yuck. Place doesn't even have a proper address that GPS recognizes and they acknowledged that.

great surroundings
The little cabins are cute, small but comfortable. The setting is lovely, the view of the lake is beautiful, it,s quiet, nice place to stop, it is 14km west of Wawa.

Shame about the critter.
The beds were uncomfortable and there was a critter in the wall that kept us awake most of the night. The person that checked us in was very kind considering we came just after 1100 pm. The lake view in the early morning with the mist was gorgeous.

The stay was a camp out.
The trailer was clean, but that was all. There were no amenities at all. There was a sign that said boil the water before drinking or washing your teeth.

Needed a place that allowed dogs. Water is non-potable and insane bugs. Quite "rustic"

We booked this place because according to Hotels.com there were no other vacancies in Wawa. We were greeted by the owner, who was barefoot and wearing pajama bottoms and an old t-shirt. Signs on the door advised us to boil water for drinking, but I would not use the kitchen at all (they did provide bottled water). The bath towels were old, mismatched and worn out. The tile floors were sticky. But the worst was the plastic cover underneath the bed sheets. Ugh. I'd advise Hotels.com to delete this property from its catalog. On the (very small) plus side, they have wifi.

FIND A LOCAL MOTEL FROM THE LOCAL YELLOW PAGES!!!
We could not use the water to drink or to clean our teeth without boiling it. We opted not to use the microscopic shower due to the unsafe water. The beds felt like they tilted, they were marginal to sleep on. The "lounge" where they had the tv had chairs with hard plywood bottoms, the lone "easy chair" was questionable. The whole set up was like a farce. We would never have stayed there if there had been other internet options. Unfortunately, most of the hotels in the town nearby don't have internet to advertise them. CHOOSE A LOCAL MOTEL AFTER YOU GET THE LOCAL YELLOW PAGES!!!!

Cute lake!
We got in too late to really evaluate much. Easy check in, quaint cabins. Nice little lake good enough for swimming in Early June.

Beautiful View
Cute cabins on Catfish Lake. - I just had to bring my food and everything I needed from plates, cutlery, pots and pans were provided in the cabin kitchen. - Great fishing right off shore or out on the lake in a boat. - There is a nice fire pit right near the lake where you can enjoy your evenings with the kids roasting some goodies. - There was a furnace in the cabin to keep us warm at night. - Beautiful pink sky sunsets. - The property is well maintained and the cabins were spotless. - The king sized bed was super comfortable. - Owners are hospitable and nice. - Lots of wildlife in the area. - The town of Wawa is 14km south of the cabins and it is a quaint little town with some restaurants, a grocery store, a visitor center and the infamous Young's General Store where you can find the best pickles in the world! Young's is an amazing gift shop and is a must see when staying at Makiebares!

A Real Gem
I stopped at Makiebares on my way from Regina. I had been camping and wanted to stay in a room with a bed for a change. If you like camping you will love this place. If you are a hotel snob you will hate it. Beautiful view of the lake, great walk along the beach, late night on the porch - quiet and close to nature

Unethical business practice
This stay never happened because our room was given away. After driving several hours on a Friday, evening after work to get there, we discovered that our room was given away. We booked 3 weeks in advance online. Not a position you want to be in on a Friday evening after dark on your birthday?????
