(38) The Mini Cabin at The Redwoods In Yosemite

The Mini Cabin is a beautifully, hand-crafted, authentic full-log interior and exterior cabin with a stylish blend of mountain modern and vintage decor. The owner completely rebuilt The Mini Cabin in 2019, keeping its charm and history as one of Wawona's original log cabins, but now with contemporary amenities. The great room is spacious and comfortable, combining the living, dining, and kitchen areas for family and friend gatherings. The kitchen is well-appointed with high-performance appliances and boasts a breakfast bar for optional seating.
You'll love sleeping in the handsome, hand-crafted, king-sized bed constructed from repurposed redwood boards sourced from the original Mini Cabin (check out the handmade Manzanita door fixtures also from the original)! The second bedroom has two twin beds. There is a full bathroom with a stall shower and an additional half bathroom. Heating and air units throughout as well as a propane fireplace keep you cozy or cool. The wraparound deck lets you peek at the Merced River through the trees. The deck has plenty of seating for everyone to relax and enjoy the Yosemite surroundings and the soothing sounds of the nearby river. No pets allowed.

About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pick up game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods In Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

The Mini Cabin at the Redwoods
We found the log home exremely clean and comfortable. It was well appointed and borderline luxurious. The ONLY negative during our stay was an empty LP gas cylinder discovered when we went to use the barbecue

Beautiful house and well managed
This was one of the best properties we have stayed at. While pricey, we really appreciated how well-designed & airy the house was. It was spotless and clean. Like a previous reviewer, my family is sensitive to dust and we had zero issues. You are close to other houses but we didn't hear anything. We had a few very minor issues and the maintenance staff was very responsive.

Terrific gem of a cabin
This cabin was perfect for four people. Kitchen is well-equipped and everything is clean and stylish. Helpful to bring a few items like paper towels, ziplock bags and foil.

Fun family location
This is such a beautiful cabin. The kids loved it! They especially loved the nearby swimming hole. It’s about an hours drive to the Valley floor and to Glacier Point, but it was nice to be away from all the crowds at then end of the day. Very clean and had everything that we needed.

Perfect mountain cabin
This is hands-down the nicest mountain property we've ever stayed in. It was a great combination of luxury and mountain rustic. The updated kitchen, the beautiful new floors, the central heating, the lovely and comfortable furniture--all of these were great. The owners made these updates while preserving mountain charm--old postcards and mountain art, incredible detail (like the wooden pulls on the kitchen cupboards), and of course the gorgeous logs of the cabin itself. Also, the property was impeccably clean--which is hugely important to us, as I have a severe dust allergy and asthma. We could not have been happier with our stay--only wish it had been longer!
