Hotels In Barossa Valley

Are you thinking about booking a cheeky mini-break to escape the everyday routine? What about the Barossa? Known as ‘the wine capital of Australia', it offers plenty of romance for couples, sophisticated fun for friends, and a stunning backdrop for solo adventurers who just want some peace and quiet in a beautiful place.

History There’s heaps of history in the Barossa, with each of its little towns just begging to be explored. Follow the heritage trails to learn more about the region’s past and check out architecture from the gold rush days and the times of the original German settlers.

Things to do Enjoying the stunning scenery and tasting delicious wines are major highlights of any visit to the Barossa. There are over 80 wineries to choose from, and you can enjoy scenic walks and drives throughout the lush valleys and rolling hills. One of the best lookout points is at Mengler Hill where you can stroll through the Sculpture Park and take in spectacular panoramic views across the whole valley. Foodies should plan a visit to the Maggie Beer Farm Shop to taste some of the local celebrity chef’s gourmet meals. There are also several pretty stone churches and the Whispering Wall is fascinating – stand at one end of the dam and whisper a message, and anyone at the other end of the dam can hear you loud and clear 144 metres away! Want more wine? Eden Valley is located right next to the Barossa Valley and has some superb cellar doors.

Shopping and dining The food in Barossa has a distinct German influence, with sausages, cheeses and other German treats high up on the menu options. You certainly won’t go hungry here; there plenty of restaurants and cafes in the area and many of the wineries also serve delicious cuisine. The Barossa is not known as a shopping destination, but you’ll find small shops offering locally-designed fashion, home wares, and art and there are small convenience stores around so you can pick up your essentials.

Getting here and around Barossa is about two hours from Adelaide by car. You can book a cheap flight to Adelaide, then continue on by bus or hire car. Public transport is limited in some parts of the Barossa so renting a car or bicycle is the best way to get around. If you’re looking to extend your trip, it’s easy to continue your adventures into the Outback.
