The hotel boasts an excellent location for those seeking proximity to gay bars and restaurants in the neighborhood. However, the hotel's interior could benefit from a much-needed renovation. In comparison to our previous stay at the Axel hotel in Barcelona, which offered more amenities and a better condition, this hotel falls short. The spa area was also underwhelming as most of the facilities were not functional. We found the location to be the hotel's saving grace, as it allowed us to avoid the touristy areas and enjoy a more local experience.

The air conditioning didn’t work so I had trouble sleeping because the room would get very hot. They could not change my room because the entire fourth floor had no air conditioning and they had no rooms with working air conditioning. However they are still selling rooms online advertised as having air conditioning. No apology or remuneration was offered.

I booked 2 nights. The first night the AC wasn't working. The second night the AC wasn't working either, they made me move to another room with AC "working" but the room was TAKEN, it was really awkward to open that room with a key that was asigned as it was a non-taken room. Walked back to reception to let them know this issue, they changed the room again, but guess what? for the 3rd time the AC wasn't working. The last room had the AC working but not so well and it had that smoke smell. As a visitor from a foreign country I was expecting to not have any issues of this kind in a first-world country. Very dissapointed.

Overall a decent hotel. Enjoyed the rooftop hottub, sauna, and socializing with other guests from around the world. Location was nice. Breakfast was substantial. Room was very small, shower flooded part of the room every time I used it (horrible drainage), staff denied laundry service when I asked them (but then I was provided with a laundry sheet in the room?), there was a bit of an unpleasant ‘smell’ in the room, and the hotel really didn’t live up to the hype or expectation.

The Axel Hotel describes itself as hetero-friendly, which is a clever way of saying that it is designed primarily as a hotel for gay men. The decor reflects the gay vibe: mostly black with lots of wall to ceiling mirrors which mislead you into thinking there are long corridors, until you nearly bump into one. My room was a good size, overlooking a garden. Large and comfortable bed. Excellent shower. Breakfast costs extra and was worth it. The hotel is less than ten minutes by cab from the main station and five minutes walk from an underground station. As a gay man, I was happy to be in a hotel with other gay men. The decor hadn't changed since I was last there five years ago and, although it was in good order, maybe it's time to lighten it up a bit.

I had a wonderful stay at Axel. The staff was super kind and helpful. The bars and restaurants near by were all really nice. My only negative thing to say is the property is really dated. It really needs updated, but I would definitely stay there again.

Had a lovely stay at Axel Hotel Berlin! Natalia and the team were very professional, welcoming and friendly. Loved the rooms, the communal roof space, sauna, steam room, gym and hot tub! The breakfast was especially good! Will definitely return! From Chris, Room 504 (2nd - 4th of July.)

Very good deal in the Gayborhood
If looking for a centrally located hotel that caters to the LGBTQ+ community, the Axel is a good choice. Clean and with friendly customer service at the reception desk. The room is standard size with the basic amenities. Nice firm bed and ample pillows. The restaurant was not open during my stay but there are plenty of restaurants at every price range nearby.
