Really good one night stopover en route from London to Edinburgh by car. Clean and comfortable room, which was thoughtfully equipped. Wouldn't hesitate to book again, nor to recommend to others.

An absolutely stunning property with a host that goes above and beyond. Beautiful breakfast options freshly made to order, coffee and home made cake on arrival. We were very impressed and would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a little luxury in a short break.

The property itself was incredibly quiet and on one side of a cobbled stable area. Every morning and evening, the owner's three elderly horses were led to and from the nearby field and we could often see the horse looking over his stable door from our bedroom window - the pony and Shetland pony weren't tall enough to look over! We saw several deer and hares near the cottage on the grounds. The cottage is in the grounds of Spital House; it was initially hard to find from the directions and maps given, but if you put 'Spital House' in Google Maps, that will lead you straight there (not 'Spital Estate'). Liz left us a lovely welcome basket of goodies and some milk. She also came round to say hello once we had settled in. The cottage is perfect for two people. The kitchen is well stocked, including coffee pods and tea bags, and is bright and very clean. The bathroom is small but perfectly fine and stocked with high quality hand wash and shower wash. The lounge is a good size with two comfortable sofas and a large TV, and the bedroom is also large with plenty of cupboard space. Although the mattress wasn't the most comfortable we've slept on, we slept very well. This is a fantastic base for exploring the local area. It is about 5 miles from the A1 and
