Holidays in Cales

It's simple — a life full of adventure is a life well-lived. So dig out your passport, pack your things and say hello to Cales!

The nation's capital, Paris, is situated roughly 460 kilometres to the north of Cales.

There are some charming natural attractions close to Cales. Why not set out 40 kilometres to Cave of Lascaux? Alternatively, take in some of Mother Nature's finest work at Padirac Cave, 18 kilometres away.

Venture 40 kilometres north to Stade Amedee Domenech to watch an exhilarating live game of rugby union. Located in Brive-la-Gaillarde, this venue is the home of the Club Athlétique Brive Corrèze Limousin, so slip into some white and black and get ready for some fun!

If you're looking to expand your horizons, add a trip to Reilhaguet to your plan. This locality is 3 kilometres to the southwest and is home to Grottes de Lacave and the Chapelle Notre-Dame. Need some more ideas? Lacave is 5 kilometres to the north of Cales and is proud to offer Abbey Sainte-Marie and the Musee de l'Automate.

Whether it's for shopping or to see the sights, travellers often make their way over to Rocamadour, 6 kilometres to the east. The Rocher des Aigles, Chateau de Rocamadour and Merveilles Cave are all within a stone's throw. Of course, don't miss Ascenseur de Rocamadour and Prehisto Dino Parc either.

There's no better way to get to know a place than to literally sink your teeth into it! You're invited to discover Lot by trying some of its best food and drink.

While you're in Cales, eat like the locals do. That means trying a plate of aligot (cheese and potato dish) or garbure (duck and cabbage soup), some of the region's classic dishes.

Make it easier for your hosts by practising an expression or two in French. To start with, try to pronounce 'Comment est-ce que vous vous appelez ?'. This means 'what's your name?'. 'Merci', which means 'thank you', is also quite common.

What better way to learn about a place than by experiencing a day of national celebration? There'll be many festivities taking place for Bastille Day on the 14th of July.

Like all good things in life, your time here must eventually come to an end. When it's finally time to head off, say one last "Au revoir / À bientôt" and spend your leftover holiday allowance on some special souvenirs.

Making it to your flight on time can be a bit of a trial. That said, you should be right if you've got a plan. The closest terminal, Blagnac Airport (TLS), is 130 kilometres to the south.
