A Famous Hotel...but!!
First time visitors to The Angel. It was nicely decorated for Christmas. The breakfast was good. Those are the good points. The internet in the rooms is very poor. We were told to go downstairs to the lobby, reconnect and then back upstairs to our room. That idea didnt work. The TV in the room didnt work although someone did come to see if anything could be done but it couldnt. We were offered a room where the TV was working but as we had purchased a Junior Suite we turned that down. No fault of the staff but the bar area had some strange down and out types in there who insisted on talking to us and we had to go back to our room to get away from them. Whilst downstairs small children were using the central staircase area as a play park and the stairs as a slide but the staff didnt seem to think that was a problem. All in all for a £150 experience it was a disappointment. We wont be returning.

I’ve stayed here a few times and am from Cardiff. Had the same room as one before, where the broken window STILL hasn’t been replaced, stains down the wall, freezing cold (radiator is barely warm (tho they provided a heater), curtuans can’t be opened/shut properly, terrible stains on some bar seats downstairs.The staff are lovely (apart from the intransigent manager who wouldn’t budge on no refunds, despite a family bereavement).

Conveniently situated and close to all amenities and shopping. Check in was easy and staff were friendly and efficient. Room was small and very dated, window frame very old and bathroom needs a totally overhaul. This would be a great stay if the rooms were updated.

We checked in on time. The hotel looked after our luggage before check in & after we'd checked out. The room was clean and warm. The staff here were absolutely fantastic and the service from everyone was excellent. We would definitely stay here again.

I paid extra for a suite room number 136. On walking up to the receptionist we encountered a strong overpowering smell of cigarette smell. FIrst impressions rundown. The headboard was obviously broken as was down about 8" on the one side. Very few bits of very dated furniture in room. Glasses in bathroom unuseable as dirty. Black marks in loo bowl. Only one bath towel between two people. Only two teabags. Curtains didnt cover the windows. Curtain pelmets falling off. Marks that looked like spit on the wallpaper. Breakfast had to change cup as several rings where had been used before. Was told they only do coffee from a box so they said it was instant only. We were under the impression that there was parking. ..there is no parking! They gave us a discount code for the ncp but this wasn't accepted after 4 tries we gave up. I had fond memories of this hotel but now its a crumbling fossil of a bygone age. Heart breaking as was to be part of a christmas treat for my partner. We won't be back.

The breakfast was nice and the hotel was clean. It was perfectly located for shopping. However our room was disappointing, the radiator didn’t work so we had a portable one in the room. This would have been fine but it made a clicking noise so we couldn’t keep it on to sleep with and it was cold. The bed was nice but the pillows were hard and we must have been located by a boiler or generator as it was loud all night. We didn’t sleep so would not recommend room 312.

The reception and main staircase are glorious A memory of it's prestigious past. But if you go further the angle is looking tired and a bit ragged, desperately in need off investment to return her to former glory. That said the staff are friendly and helpful.

Lovely friendly staff. Very convenient location. I had a room at the back of the hotel and it was really quiet considering it is right in the city centre. It is an older hotel but was very clean. Bed was super comfy!

I just would've enjoyed a real martini in the evening. No olives and not allowed to mix alcohol types. Would the bylaw limitation be about the alcohol amount? Or could I have ordered ice on the side, a Staff were great. I did not see that they were open for breakfast.shot of vermouth and a shot of Gin?
