There’s some pretty fascinating stuff going on in Chao Yang! You simply can’t miss the Dashanzi Art District, otherwise known as Factory 798 or the 798 Art District, where Communist-era factories and warehouses have been transformed into art galleries, creative studios, boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants. The area is a piece of art itself and there are regular art exhibits and events! Outside of here, check out the China National Film Museum and the National Museum of Modern Chinese Literature.

Central sights

The bustling CBD is the financial heart of Beijing and a must-visit. Check out the China World Trade Center, which towers over the city, and the new CCTV Tower, a multimillion-dollar complex that’s fascinating for its geometric shape alone. The Place is also fascinating for its massive canopy of LED screens. But don’t forget that Chao Yang is also where you’ll find the Olympic Green built for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing! So be sure to check out the iconic Bird’s Nest (Beijing National Stadium) and Water Cube (Beijing National Aquatics Centre).

Escape the city

If you’re looking for some respite from the hectic markets, skyscrapers and busy streets, head to the gorgeous Chaoyang Park for a stroll, or to Crab Island for the artificial beach attraction with sand, waves and waterslides.

Getting here

Chao Yang is perched directly to the east and north of the very centre of Beijing, so it’s super easy to get to by subway and taxi from other parts of the city. Likewise, if you’re catching a flight to Beijing, the easiest way to get to Chao Yang from the airport is by taxi or train.
