Holidays in Cheronnac

Had enough of scrolling through other people's holiday snaps while you're chowing down your brekkie? Then book a flight to Cheronnac and start your days among the breathtaking rural landscapes, rivers and rolling hills of Limousin.

The nation's capital, Paris, can be found 360 kilometres to the north of Cheronnac.

The splendour of Mother Nature is on show around Cheronnac. Just 8 kilometres away, Parc Naturel Regional Perigord is a good place to start. Montignac-Charente Tourism Office sits 50 kilometres away and is another picturesque spot for some peace and quiet.

You'll discover even more just down the road. Videix, 2 kilometres to the northwest, is known for Chateau de Rochechouart and the Espace Meteorite. Alternatively, if Cassinomagus Archaeological Park and Aventure Parc Lacs de Haute Charente are more your thing, go 4 kilometres northwest from Cheronnac to Verneuil.

Spend some time visiting Limoges Cathedral, the Musee National Adrien Dubouche and Church of St-Michel-des-Lions. These attractions are all near the middle of Condat-sur-Vienne, 40 kilometres to the east. If you're keen for more, the University of Limoges and the Maison de la Boucherie ought to also be on your itinerary.

After outdoor fun you can have with the kids? Cycling and shore fishing are a couple of great ways to while away the day.

You're bound to discover loads of treasures squashed into the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries and craft workshops.

After something outdoors that will suit the whole family? The local area features some pleasant gardens.

Get a better sense of the area's past by stopping at a few of the nearby castles and traditional villages. If a tour guide isn't around, make sure you do some research of your own.

If you're searching for an experience beyond the physical world, consider checking out one or two churches, cathedrals and monasteries. It's a great opportunity to explore some of Cheronnac's spiritual beliefs.

Eating is one of life's greatest pleasures, and since you're reading this, you probably think travel is too. Combine your passion for both by getting out and tasting the food and drink offerings at the bars, cafés and restaurants across town.

If you're studying a menu, there's every chance you'll see dishes featuring lamb or mushrooms. They're some ingredients commonly used in the cooking here.

Of course, you can't go to Cheronnac without digging into boudin noir aux châtaignes (black pudding with chestnuts) or fondu creusois (camembert fondue with potatoes). Popular with the locals and considered regional specialties, they are an essential experience for any self-respecting foodie.

Don't let a difference in language get in the way of a fun time! Make your adventure to Limousin a more fulfilling one by learning a couple of phrases in the local tongue. Try to get your mouth around 'C'est combien ?'. It translates as 'how much is this?'. 'Je ne comprends pas' ('I don't understand') is just one more you may need.

Every year on the 14th of July, Bastille Day holds a special place in the locals' hearts. It offers a great chance to discover the nation's past and kick up your heels while you're at it!

"Au revoir / À bientôt" doesn't have to mean farewell forever. Why not hang onto a few European euros for when you come back?

If you're catching a plane home, it's wise to decide a route to the terminal before leaving. From the middle of Cheronnac, you'll need to travel around 150 kilometres southwest to Merignac Airport (BOD), the closest airport.
