I was so happy staying here. I asked for an extra blanket because I was cold and the staff went above and beyond bringing me a blanket and a space heater! So friendly and thoughtful.

This grand old lady has seen her share of history. When you visit, ask for a peek at the Gold Room! The building is well-kept; my single standard king was large and comfortable. Water pressure was great and the shower was hot almost immediately. Commercial grade laminate flooring in the room meant no carpet dust. I didn't pay for a view but a short walk through Grant Park gets you up close to Buckingham Fountain. Walk a little further to the museum campus or downtown. Doorman Steve was always standing by to assist. (Does he ever go home?) Housekeeping staff work hard to keep guests happy. If you seek bland and overpriced, look elsewhere. Otherwise, I highly recommend the Congress.

Calling this place a dump would be an insult to dumps everywhere. It was 40 degrees the morning we checked into the hotel. The hotel DOES NOT HAVE HEAT. They run an old boiler system that can only do one or the other. They gave us a $36 small space heater from Home Depot to try to keep warm. What kind of hotel in Chicago doesn't have heat in October? The kind of hotel that should shutter their doors until they can afford to make some upgrades.

We loved our stay at the Congress!! Me. Steve out front was ana amazing help with our bags, the other gentleman who were apart of the concierge service were great as well. Mr. Bill in the bar was always great. The stay was all around amazing for us. We were two female travelers and felt safe the entire time and were close to so much.

Great haunted historical hotel. We didn’t have air conditioning with stunk but other than that it was clean and nice. Being from the country it was darn near impossible to sleep because of the noise but I think that’s just a general city issue.

My only issue was that the room service had to be called several times before anyone picked up to take my order. When I was told and shown the lake view room, I had to lean over to see the lake view with the photo I saw when reserving showed the lake straight ahead in plain view. Also, my room was freezing. Other than that it was good.

Beautiful but chilly
Elegant place for a stay, but there is no heat control. The hotel gave me extra blankets, but that only helped when I was sleeping. For some reason there were no washcloths either. I’d visit this hotel in summer but not the rest of the year.

The view was horrible. The ice machine was broken on the floor I was on It was a strong smell of paint. The stuff at the front desk was not friendly. That hotel needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. We were so spooked that we only stayed one night, checked out and went to another hotel

Location! We selected this hotel for its proximity to the downtown and attractions we wanted to see. The hotel is a historic property. We had a room with king size bed. Fairly basic but clean and bed was comfortable. Check in was painless. We didn’t interact with staff too much because we were out for the most of the day. Location is perfect; about 10-15 minutes walk to the Bean, the fountain across the street, the Chicago Cultural Center ( a must see Tiffany’s dome inside), the River Walk, the art museum, the Symphony hall. Behind the hotel there is a strip with breakfast place, Chinese restaurant (we ate there twice, great food), a Himalayan restaurant ( looked interesting but we didn’t have time to check it out), and Dunkin’ Donuts. On the same street there is a public library that is worth checking. I would stay there again.

The hotel is decent in general, lots of obvious signs of aging and many repairs need to made to little things like baseboards, peeling paint, broken elevator buttons, and random little things like that. I also requested a no smoking room and was placed in a smoking room. The housekeepers I encountered were all very friendly, as well as the front desk attendants. I will definitely stay at this hotel again, but will ensure that I get a non smoking room next time.

It’s very much a 3 star hotel - the rooms feel a little dated and it took a long time for the hot water to kick in for our shower… but the king size bed was comfortable, bathroom spacious and clean, had different options for soft (or bright) lighting, and the lobby facilities and staff are so great. It met all our needs as a safe place to sleep for a short trip. Highly recommend especially for convenient transit and walking.

Beautiful historic building and a view of the lake, Navy Pier, Buckingham Fountain and the museums from our room. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Would stay again.
