Things to Do in Oman
Start your trip in the capital city of Muscat, located on the north coast. Stop for a quiet moment at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, where the main prayer carpet weighs 21 tonnes. While you’re in Muscat, dress in your evening best for a show at the Royal Opera House.
Balance that big-city glamour with some local charm at the souk (Arabic for “market”) in the inland city of Nizwa, located about 160km south of Muscat. Down south in Salalah, embrace that coast-loving life at Al Mughsail Beach and take a gander at the view from Taqah Castle. Watch the sun set over the water, then tuck yourself in to a dinner of roast lamb, saffron rice and cardamom-flavoured doughnut balls called lokhemat.
Dinner will run late, have no doubt, but there are fabulous Oman hotels waiting for you to turn in once you’re stuffed.
Getting to and Around Oman
Hit the runway at Muscat International Airport (MCT), located 14km west of the city centre. In the bigger cities you can commute by bus to Oman accommodation and all the sights on your itinerary, but for a whirlwind tour, a holiday hire car is tops (from lastminute.com.au, naturally).
For the best deals on flights and hotels, bundle the savings with Oman holiday packages from lastminute.com.au. Wanna keep the party going? Add some Dubai accommodation to the mix and send us a postcard from the “City of Gold”!
