Holidays in Dukla

If the Chrissie money you got from Mum and Dad is burning a hole in your wallet, why not spend it on a holiday to Dukla? We assure you — it'll be the gift that keeps on giving!

It sits 310 kilometres to the south of Warsaw, the national capital of Poland.

Spend a laid-back afternoon at Lesko Stone. It lies just 50 kilometres out of Dukla. Inhale the clean air and take some time to simply slow down.

Whether you're a soccer follower or you just want to taste the thrilling atmosphere, try to see a live game at Karpaty Krosno Stadium, the home ground of the KKS Karpaty Krosno. You'll find the arena 20 kilometres away in Krosno.

Feel the icy wind blow back your hair as you snowboard your way down the slopes at Jaworki Ski Area. If you're a real powder hound, check out the trails at Jahodna Ski Resort.

After even more fantastic attractions? Go to Krosno, 20 kilometres north of Dukla, for Lesny Debina Park and Krosno Vocational College. Alternatively, Jedlicze is 25 kilometres to the north, and it's here you'll come across Kamieniec Castle and the Craft Museum.

Going to Bardejovské Kúpele? This destination is just 35 kilometres to the southwest. If you're setting up base here, grab a map and circle Bardejov Square, Church of St. Aegidius and the Saris Museum. Also consider stopping in at St. Egidius Church and the Icon Museum.

Your eyes shouldn't have all the fun while visiting Podkarpackie Voivodeship. Give your taste buds a little loving too by tucking into the local food and beverage offerings. After all, you can't say you've really experienced a place until you've tasted its flavours.

Once you stop and browse a restaurant or café menu, you'll notice that beef and cabbage are a few ingredients commonly found in dishes here.

Ask one of the locals what to eat in Dukla and kotlet schabowy (breaded cutlet) will probably be up there with the first things they mention. Gołąbki (soft boiled cabbage leaves wrapped around minced meat) is another regional specialty you'll want to try.

We're sure you won't need too much persuading to indulge in some piernik (gingerbread), a dessert that'll make you want to sever all ties and settle down here for good.

Ask any well-travelled globetrotter and they'll tell you that the best way to enrich your travel experience is to memorise some local expressions and phrases. 'Dzień dobry' may be very useful. It's how you say 'good afternoon'. Another one to remember is 'Mów wolniej', meaning 'please speak more slowly'.

You're bound to sense a buzz in the air leading up to the 3rd of May. The locals will be preparing for Constitution Day, a day of nation-wide celebrations.

Like all good things, your trip to Dukla must eventually come to an end. When it's finally time to leave, say a last "Narazie" and spend your remaining holiday allowance on some keepsakes to take home.

When it's time to take to the skies, make sure you have plenty of time to get to John Paul II - Balice Airport (KRK). Sitting 150 kilometres to the northwest from the middle of Dukla, this is the closest terminal.
