We stayed at the Chateau Lacombe 46 years ago when we got married. We were young and completely amazed by the property. To us it was stunning and grand and classy.
Now, all these years later, with some experience under our belts, we can see it for what it is - a nice hotel in downtown Edmonton. She is aging, and it shows.
Our room was comfortable, though the beds and pillows were very hard. I had to ask for an extra blanket as the ones on the bed were super thin. They still have drip style coffee makers, and the tv needs replacing. The bathroom could use a total makeover and the carpets a really good cleaning, or better yet, replacing.
We did, however, have a beautiful view of the city. Dinner at LaRonde was -- just okay -- for what we paid it should have been a lot better. That said, our server, Colin, was excellent. He was professional, funny and made excellent suggestions when asked about the menu.
Overall, we were pleased with our night at the hotel, but it sure didn't live up to our memories! Then again, what does?
