The stay was absolutely fine. We had a couple of requests, and the staff members kindly helped us to find solutions.I have a couple tips to help you improve your customer service:
Tip 1:
Smile! Especially at the reception. Smile at your guests when they arrive, ask friendly questions like "how was your trip?" Smile at your guests when they approach the reception to ask questions. A warm, genuine smile will leave a lasting impression and create a more pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. (To be honest, I shouldn't have to say this... it's the basics of Hotel Management).
Tip 2:
Be aware of your surroundings (especially at breakfast). Acknowledge the presence of the guests! Welcome them, say good morning, smile, get out of the way (if you are blocking the guests path), and maybe even say something funny or friendly! Nobody said anything to me when I arrived at breakfast. This was unprofessional.
Tip 3:
This is more of a personal one, but stop clearing the plates so quickly at breakfast! One of my plates had perfectly good butter on it that I still wanted to use, but the staff member cleared everything too frequently, suddenly and without warning. A bit of communication and awareness would go a long way!
These are nice gestures that you get in 5 star hotels in Germany, but around the world, it's actually quite normal! Some basic customer service skills will do wonders for your business (and reputation). After all, you want to make a profit, right? ;-)
