Holidays in Hawiyah

Adventure. Relaxation. Adventure. Relaxation. Off to Hawiyah but can't figure out what kinda holiday you want? Stop stressing! We'll help sort it out.

The nation's capital, Muscat, can be found approximately 140 kilometres to the north of Hawiyah.

You should always know where the closest natural escape lies. Here, it's Wahiba Sands, 8 kilometres out of Hawiyah.

If you have enough time, why not check out a few nearby destinations? Bidiya and Wadi Bani Khalid are 13 kilometres and 35 kilometres away, respectively.

The Sur Marine Museum, Al Ayjah Lighthouse and Sunaysilah Fort are all pretty close to Sur, 70 kilometres to the east. Need more reasons to swing by? Bilad Sur Castle and Al Ayjah Fort aren't far away either.

Your eyes shouldn't get to have all the fun while you're in Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate. Give your taste buds a little TLC too by tucking into some of the local food and drink. After all, you haven't truly experienced a destination until you've tasted its flavours.

Want some insight into the regional cuisine? We recommend tasting fish and lamb, two popular ingredients used in lots of dishes here.

No true foodie would leave Hawiyah without eating one or two of the signature meals, such as mashuai (spit-roasted kingfish) and maqbous (rice dish).

Dessert is never a bad idea, so why not get stuck into a little lokhemat (balls of deep fried flour and yeast)? It's worth every magnificent calorie!

Food, art and music — national celebrations show off the best of what a country has to offer. Be sure to join hands with the locals on Birthday of Sultan Qaboos on the 18th of November.

From the centre of Hawiyah, it's about 150 kilometres northwest to Seeb International Airport (MCT). This is the closest airport. Make sure you allow yourself a bit of extra time to get there so you don't miss your flight home.
