Holidays in Kamppi

Throw in your job, book a ticket, get a tan, fall in love, never come back. You don't have to do all of those things, but one you should do is pay for that ticket to Kamppi. One of the many 'hoods of Helsinki, it's a great base for exploring all that this city has to offer. The capital of Finland is home to some 550,000 people and a fantastic place to really experience the nation's history and culture. Kamppi is 0.6 kilometres southwest of central Helsinki. If you're coming in from Vantaa Airport, toss your luggage in the back of a taxi and drive 17 kilometres south.

Kamppi is a wonderland for sightseers. A good deal of the city's best attractions are strewn near this unique neighbourhood, including Presidential Palace and the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art. You should also take a look around the Ateneum Art Museum and Senate Square. While you're in town, consider stopping by a few other neighbourhoods to taste more of what Helsinki has to offer. Helsinki and Punavuori are some great areas that aren't too far away.

Getting cabin fever in Kamppi? Explore beyond its boundaries and visit the Finlandia Hall and Helsinki Cathedral, two highlights in the centre of Helsinki. Alternatively, take a look around the National Museum and Uspenski Cathedral.

Hoping to experience the local culture? Go to the Helsinki Street, the Finnish Museum of Photography, the Tennispalatsi Finnkino Cinema and the Korjaamo Cultural Factory.

Sometimes a work of art can speak so loudly to you that you just have to find out more about it. See if the staff can brief you about the works at the Design Museum, the Helsinki City Museum, the Sinebrychoff Art Museum and the Museum of Foreign Art.

If you find yourself stuck with some wet weather, make your way over to the Military Museum of Finland, the Submarine Vesikko, the Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Mannerheim House Museum. The marvellous displays are sure to keep your brain buzzing and your body dry!

You can't quite beat the buzz of excitement when a live show is due to kick off. Wait for the curtains to rise at Helsinki Music Centre, the Swedish Theatre, Finnish National Opera and the National Theater.

Sometimes kids can have fun in the most unexpected places. Take a camera and capture them at the Helsinki City Library, the Maxim Finnkino Cinema, the Kinopalatsi Finnkino Cinema and the Kinopalatsi Movie Theater Complex.

If you're on the hunt for something a little more action-packed to do with the kids, we recommend you check out Linnanmaki Amusement Park, the Helsinki Sky Wheel, Linnanmäki & Sea Life and Allas Sea Pool.

If you're a traveller who feels at home among nature, you should check out Seurasaari Island, Toolo Bay and Kaunissaari Island.

Pull on your hiking boots and discover the nearby nature preserves, such as the Kaisaniemen Kasvitieteellinen Puutarha and the Kaisaniemi Botanical Garden.

A charming feature of this suburb is its nearby public parks. In the midst of all the action, there are plenty of places to take a short break. Winter Garden, Meilahden Arboretum, Sibelisu Park and Kaivopuisto Park are great options.

The shopping experience is unique to everyone. Whether you know what you're after or just doing a bit of impulse buying, you'll love it at Stockmann, Iittala Outlet Arabia, Kamppi Center and Kauppahalli.

The surrounding historic attractions will provide you with a better understanding of the area's interesting past. Seurasaari Open Air Museum, Suomenlinna Fortress, the University of Helsinki and Parliament Building have plenty of tales to tell.

Spiritual sites such as St. John's Church, Kallio Church, Temppeliaukio Church and Old Church of Helsinki can provide you with a better understanding of the region. Relax in the peaceful atmosphere and take some time to think.

From its electrifying live games to tours that allow you to walk in the footsteps of sporting heroes, Hartwall Arena is a must-do for sports lovers. Home of the Jokerit, this stadium is not far from Kamppi.
