Holidays in Kita

Do you open every travel deal that finds its way into your inbox? Catch yourself frequently stalking travel hashtags? It's time for a getaway and Kita, a neighbourhood in Tokyo, is calling your name. With around 8,300,000 people calling the capital of Japan home, you're bound to meet a few new BFFs (or maybe even your new bae) during your stay. Once you've stepped off the plane at Haneda Airport and picked up your gear, Kita will be a commute of 25 kilometres to the north. From the centre of Tokyo, it's 11 kilometres to the north.

Kita is heaven on earth for sightseers. A good portion of the city's attractions are scattered near this unique neighbourhood, including Tokyo Sky Tree and the Sensoji Temple. Don't forget to put Tokyo Imperial Palace and Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building on your schedule too. A great way to take in this city is to wander some of its neighbourhoods. So why not venture to nearby Jyujo and Akabane and explore their sights and sounds?

Among the first Tokyo recommendations of any guidebook will have to be Tokyo Tower. So what's the delay? This renowned sight sits just 2 kilometres from the city centre.

If you're up for discovering some highlights in the city centre, make sure you include Tsukiji Fish Market and Yasukuni Shrine. The Tokyo National Museum and Yoyogi Park are also among the area's biggest draws.

Yuya Wasshoi and Yoshidaya are perfect excuses to kick back and relax.

The area's various cultural places, such as the SCAI the Bathhouse, the Nishi-Sugamo Arts Factory, Gallery Nekomachi and the Kawaguchi Municipal Art Gallery Atlia, cannot be missed!

Take five while you experience the intriguing artwork on display at the Asakura Choso Museum, the Sekido Museum of Art, the Japan Calligraphy Museum and the Yokoyama Taikan Memorial Hall. Later, why not grab a coffee from a local café and reflect on your time there?

If you find yourself stuck in some rainy weather, make your way over to the Tokyo National Science Museum, Ikebukuro Life Safety Learning Center, the Daimyo Clock Museum and the Banknote and Postage Stamp Museum. The captivating collections are sure to keep your imagination buzzing and your body dry!

You can't quite beat the feeling of anticipation when a live show is about to begin. Wait for the curtains to rise at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space and the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre.

Finding places to amuse the kids is often top of the list when embarking on a family holiday. Keep an eye open for Sunshine Aquarium, the Chuo Library, the Japan Mint Tokyo Museum and the International Library of Children's Literature.

As every traveller knows, this big blue planet is brimming with remarkable critters. Admire some of them up close and personal at the Ueno Zoo and Higashiitabashi Park Children's Zoo.

You can find a selection of fun-filled attractions in the area. Namco Namja Town, Ukima Park, Arakawa Yuen and J-World Tokyo will prevent the little ones from getting bored.

If you're blessed with a sunny day, fill your lungs with fresh, clean air and enjoy a spot of nature at the Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, Rokuryu Kosen, The Sunshine 60 Observatory and the Imperial Palace Area.

For a glimpse of some native plants and animals, go to the Chinzan-so Garden and the University of Tokyo Botanical Garden.

If all the activity of the city is wearing you out, recharge your batteries with a visit to one of the nearby parks. Ueno Park, Rikugi-en Garden, Iko Ruins Park and Belmont Park are wonderful places to relax under the shade of the trees.

A great way to remember your holiday is by taking home a few mementos. See what's on offer at Nekobukuro, Sunshine City Shopping Mall, Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street and Hobby Center Kato Tokyo.

Learn lessons from the past at one or two of the area's historic sites, such as the Waseda University, the Ancient Orient Museum, the Tokyo Kasei University Museum and Nogata Standpipe.

Whatever your background or beliefs, it's worth visiting St. Mary's Cathedral, Hakusan Shrine, Ueno Toshogu Shrine and the Tenno-ji Temple.
