We chose this hotel for its location, as we needed to break our car journey from the UK to Austria. The hotel was exactly six hours' drive from Calais and is situated in a beautiful quiet village, just five minutes from the A3. It is well sign-posted and has ample adjacent parking.
We were greeted on arrival by the proprietor, an Austrian gentleman who spoke very good English. He asked us whether we had eaten and provided directions (and a discount voucher) for a couple of local restaurants - a pizzeria and a vegetarian restaurant. He then showed us to our wonderful second floor room. The room was spacious, absolutely spotless and in immaculate condition. It also had beautiful views over the village.
We dumped our bags off, freshened up in the large en-suite bathroom and headed off on foot to the pizzeria, where we sat outside and enjoyed a very reasonably priced meal, albeit that the house wine left a little to be desired.
We then returned to the hotel, where we enjoyed a very comfortable undisturbed night's sleep.
The inclusive buffet breakfast the following morning was more than adequate, offering a wide choice of juices, cereals, bread, croissants, fruit, cakes, eggs, cheese, ham, etc.
We could not have chosen a better hotel for our stopover and look forward to staying at the Spessartor again - either as a stopover or for a longer stay in this beautiful rural area.
