Holidays in Marleston

Bring your love of adventure along with that well-travelled suitcase. It's time to see what Marleston is all about! A fabulous Adelaide 'hood, it's a brilliant place to experience another side of the South Australia capital. Keen to meet the locals? Won't be a problem. Around 1,200,000 people live in Adelaide. To make your way to Marleston from Adelaide Airport, hop into a taxi and travel east for 3 kilometres. From the centre of Adelaide, it's 4 kilometres to the southwest.

This city is brimming with things to see and do, and you'll uncover many of them near Marleston. It's difficult to choose the top attractions, but Victoria Square and Government House are two you should not miss. After taking a look at those, you'll want to continue onwards to Rundle Mall and the Art Gallery of South Australia. While you're in town, consider checking out a few other neighbourhoods to taste more of what Adelaide has to offer. Keswick and West Torrens are great suggestions that aren't too far away.

You don't have to search too hard for things to do in the centre of Adelaide. The Adelaide Festival Centre and Adelaide Central Market will keep you amused for hours. The Adelaide Botanic Gardens and the National Wine Centre of Australia should also be part of any outing downtown.

Find a babysitter and head over for some fun at the Adelaide Casino and East End Cafe Precinct.

A few terrific cultural sites are waiting for you. Start off at the Lion Arts Centre, the Carclew Youth Arts Center, the Australian Experimental Art Foundation and the Jam Factory Contemporary Craft & Design Centre.

While you can easily see a variety of art online these days, there's nothing quite like experiencing it first-hand. Discover the region's creative side by visiting the Tandanya and the Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art.

Sometimes it's the star exhibits that catch our eye. Other times it's an under-valued object that's been hidden in a dimly lit corner. Keep an eye out for both at the South Australian Museum, the Migration Museum and the Bradman Collection.

Up for a few rounds of golf? Slip on a pair of khaki slacks, shine up your clubs and perform your best Tiger Woods impression at the North Adelaide Golf Course, the City of Adelaide Golf Links and the Glenelg Golf Club.

Finding entertainment for the kids is often top of the list when going on holiday with the family. Look out for Adelaide Aquatic Centre and the State Library of South Australia.

Are the kids getting restless with all the history and culture? Give them a break and make your way to some of the action-packed family attractions you can find nearby. The Beachhouse, Kurrangga Park and the Adelaide Showground are some well-known choices.

On a clear blue day, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy an afternoon among nature at the Himeji Gardens, Breakout Creek Wetlands and River Torrens Linear Park Trail.

There are all kinds of ocean treasures scattered along the coastline. Why not take a bucket and explore West Beach and Henley Beach?

Get your picnic on and invite a couple of friends down to hang out in one of the relaxing urban parks nearby. Your options include Veale Gardens, Osmond Gardens, Brougham Gardens and Rymill Park.

Quite often, the best way to get the feel of a new place is by heading to the shops. Be sure to stop by Brickwork Markets and Gilles Street Market.

Parliament House, the University of Adelaide, City Bridge and the Ayers House Museum can give you a glimpse back into the past.

Whether you want to learn about the region's traditions and customs or just soak up the peaceful surrounds, get going to St Peter's Cathedral, Pilgrim Uniting Church, the Buddhist Temple Wat Ratanaprathib Vihara and St Francis Xavier Cathedral.

Slip into some blue, red and yellow and see Australian rules football (AFL) team the Adelaide FC in action at Adelaide Oval. Also the home ground of the Port Adelaide FC and the Adelaide Strikers, it's a good idea to check the lineup of this sporting hub and time your visit with a game day.
