If there isn't a match on during your stay, take a walk in the players' footsteps and learn some cool facts about the arena on a guided tour instead.

Spend your getaway alternating between the fluffy snow and a crackling fire at Solvalla Swinghill Ski Resort and Nomme Snow Park. From total newbies to seasoned pros, there's something for everybody at these winter paradises.

After even more attractions? Head to Kirkkonummi, 8 kilometres southwest of Masala, for the Hvittrask and the Peruramaa Golf. Alternatively, Espoo is 8 kilometres to the northeast, and it's here you'll find the Aalto University and the Helsinki University of Technology.

Spend an afternoon exploring the Tytyri Mine Museum, the Lohja Museo and the St. Laurence Golf. They are all pretty close to the middle of Lohja, 30 kilometres to the west. If you're after more, Prisma Shopping Center and Market Square, Lohja should also be on your to-do list.

When Masala residents talk to you about their favourite foods, you'll probably hear hernekeitto (pea soup) or rosolli (beetroot salad) uttered a few times. These specialties form part of the area's identity and should be on any foodie's must-try list.

Your experience in Masala will definitely be more satisfying if you take the time to master a few of the local phrases and expressions. 'Olen kotoisin ...sta' translates to 'I am from..'. 'Hauska tavata', which means 'pleased to meet you', is another one you might need.

Don't forget to put the 6th of December in your schedule. To the locals, this means one thing — Independence Day. A significant day of festivities, this is a wonderful time of year to be in the country.

From the centre of Masala, it's approximately 30 kilometres to the northeast to Vantaa Airport (HEL). This is the nearest airport. Be sure to give yourself a bit of extra time to make your way there so you don't miss check-in.
